Hey guys, I'm brand new to the site, and to firefighting. I'm 18 years old and just joined my local fire department as a volunteer in North Carolina. My department is pretty small (only about 10 calls a week). Anyway, I am pretty excited and eager to start fighting fires. Obviously I need to go through quite a bit of training, including the 1403 training so I can get into live burns, which I am pretty eager to do. Are there any other volunteers out there who have completed their 1403 training? I'm wondering how long it will take me to complete these ten classes, and what classes I should take first. I'm already signed up to do my PPE class, I'm just wondering what comes next, and how long until I can get into a fire. Thanks guys!

Best idea would be talk to the guys on your department that have gone through the training and see what they suggest.
Personally I dont know what the 1403 consists of but PPE, SCBA, knots, and ladders would probably be some of the first classes to try and take.
