A FireRescue1.com article by Dave Murphy utilizes the findings from an IAFF report to give you 12 ways to prevent firefighter fatalities and even injuries. You may have the mentality that there has never been a LODD at your department or that it can't happen to you; you're healthy, young, experienced, or something else that exempts you from LOD injuries.
WRONG! The article states, "...about one-third of the firefighter LOD injuries were caused by a cluster of factors under the DIRECT CONTROL of the individual firefighter and chief officers."
Take an honest look at yourself as a firefighter. What changes in behavior do YOU need to adapt? Which of the 12 suggestions is most applicable to you? Which of them is most important for the fire service as a whole?
