Just before 0900 hours, Lehigh County comm center dispatched companies 23, 9, 6 and 24 to the area of Rt. 873 and Friedens Rd. for a house fire with rescue - a elderly man reported to be on the roof of the house. A fire police captain arrives and reports a working fire.

Crews find heavy fire on the first and second floors of the dwelling. 4 handlines are stretched and in-service. Ladder 23 sets up in the front of the fire building while ladder 24 goes to the roof on the Delta side. Crews quickly darkened down the bulk of the fire but had extensive overhaul ops due to heavy extension into the walls. It took firefighters about an hour to contain the fire.

Walnutport, Neffs and Lehigh Township assisted at the scene.

A good fire fight??? Things look ok up to the point of the guy on the line that climbs on to the roof of the porch, doesn't sound the roof, knows there is fire under him, climbs off the ladder and his foot starts to go through the roof, BUT, continues to pull his foot out and STANDS UP! And If that isn't enough, has 2 more firefighters JOIN HIM! And the mere fact that companies are pulling the underside of the roof and further compromising the integrity of the roof that much more.

This is a great video, for a NEAR MISS ARTICLE! Remember, tunnel vision kills. We are way beyond put the wet stuff on the red stuff.

Good firefight, operations seemed to run pretty smoothly and command seemed to have everything in control. A tip of the helmet to all.
