Just wondering how many volunteer firefighter's and departments are NIMS compliant out there? What are the classes like? Where are they located? How much do they cost? Can someone explain what there about? Our department is just getting around to it.

Alot of the nims classes you can take on-line thru F.E.M.A. You take the class online and take a test at the end.

Some people print the test first then go threw the class writing the answers in and then submit them. once you pass you can print th certificate out on-line they are free. there are a couple that you have to take in a class room setting contact your local fire schools and see if they are offering them.
Click the link. You and your department can get your 100, 200, 700, and 800 online. 300 and 400 must be taken in the classroom.

I will add that one of the best things FEMA did was change the answers on each test. The old days of "hey buddy give me your answers so I can be compliant too" are gone.
Thanks for all your replies
I just recently completed NIMS ICS-100, 200, and 700. I completed them all on-line, for free through F.E.M.A. I believe that these three are required to be compliant.
Thanks for all the info.
Are you asking how many departments in general are ? Or how many volunteer? Seems a bit confusing. In this area we all are, with 16? fire agencies and all the other agencies that would work together around here we have been for a long time. We have Type 4 IMTs for each agency for the most part and a well defined Type 3 with about 40 people on it. Many of those on the T 3 are T 1 & 2 rated and on teams.

They are the minimum requirement for non command staff. You should take 800 since it is available online also and it is still all fresh in your mind. The IS-300 (I think) is taught in seminars and can't be completed online. It is for command personnel. If you are an officer or are going to become one, I assure you the class is worth it. (it is free)
Here at Delphi/Tri-Township Volunteer Fire we are NIMS compliant. All you really do is have all of your men study and take a test and it is pretty much a refresher course for firefighting. That is how our Chief put it.
Thanks for the info
