PHILADELPHIA - Authorities now say one firefighter is in critical condition, two others are hurt, and one civilian is dead after an overnight fire in Northern Liberties.

The fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. in a row home in the 500 block of North 5th Street.

When firefighters got to the home, they heard reports people were trapped inside. They said they battled heavy heat and smoke conditions.

"Well, we had a report of a person trapped. In addition to the three firefighters that were transported to the hospital, we also had two civilians that self-transported to the hospital. They went to Hahnemann," a fire department official at the scene said.

Those people suffered minor injuries.

At last check, the one firefighter was in critical condition while the other two were reported to be in stable condition.

The fire marshal is investigating, but officials say there were no signs of any smoke detectors in the home.
