Thorn Volunteer Fire Department is located 45 miles S. East of Tupelo, MS near Houston, MS. We serve a population of 1900. At the moment we have a 2 bays housing 2 pumpers yet we have, at our Chief's place of business, 3 tankers - 1 2500gl, 1 3000gl and 1 5000gl. We also have one military truck that we are in the process of converting into a 500gl grass truck. We have 1 outdated vehicle that is being used for EMS. We are working on enlarging our house to 5 bay with sleeping quarters.
Our roster shows 52 members yet we have 22 (5 explorers include) dedicated firefighters. We are a small department but our pride is large in our cummunity. If we can't have pride in what we do then what's the use? Saving lives and property is the main goal which can be done effectively with team work

We have two stations, two engines, two tankers and one support truck.

and one state airport.
Organized in 1963 and still all volunteer.
I'm from a somewhat small township. One township and three departments. All are their own company, not a district like most. My station covers the most area as first due and I believe houses the most trucks. We currently have in serve 3 engines, 1 heavy rescue, 1 tractor drawn tanker, 1 pumper/tanker, and 1 utility truck. We seem large, but have a little under 30 members, and we run maybe an average of 110 - 120 calls a year. Most departments in my county run three times as much as we do.
Small Department, Huge Area to cover. Kachemak Emergency Services. About 50 volunteers, Paid Chief, Paid Deputy Chief,Paid Part time Mechanic, Paid Administrative assistant. 2 Stations 35 minutes apart. 1 Engine, 2 Tankers(4000 and 2000). 2 ambulance ALS equipped , 1 rescue, 1 squad w/CAFS, 2 BLM Loaner brush trucks. Narrow roads and lots of snow and ice. 2 other departments within 25 miles. Lots of Mutual Aid here.
my department serves approx 13,000 we are the second largest city in litchfield county connecticut and the smallest city in the state we have 3 stations houseing 3 engine companys 1 tower-ladder 1 pumper- tanker and soon a rescue-pumper we respond to every working fire in the 3 towns 1 city that surround us to provide R.I.T. and ither the only ladder or second in ladder and respond to approx 600 - 1200 calls per year and i cant forget about the fire police

my station is small we have 2 bays and in the station be have 2 fire engines and a brush truck. ill post a picture later
we have a old hall built in 1963 our pumper just fits in,we have a rescue truck which takes up 3/4 of the second bay and a table and chairs which takes up the rest, our ambulance sits outside, this year our new fire hall will be built they started it two weeks ago hopefully it will be done by September then everything will be inside and we will have some room to practice,it is going to have three bays,i believe each one will be approx 60 feet long and 20 ft wide it will be nice

Our Dept. has about 35 active members, which around 5 are interior.  We have a Cheif & 3 asst. Chiefs, a Capt. and 4 Luit's.  We serve 1,282 residents over 33 square miles.  Our station is in it's only village which it's population is only 400.  The rest is all country.  We have a 2010 International Engine with 500 gal tank, Crew Cab and is a 4x4 with a side-mount pump panel.  A 2001 Smeal International Tanker with 1500 Gallons seats 2 with a mid-mount pump panel.  1991 E-One Engine cab-over with 1250 gallon tank with a mid-mount pump.  A 1987 Salsbury Mack Medium Duty rescue that seats 9.  A 1921 American LaFrance Brockway (our  antique).  That has two 100 gallon soda ash tanks. And it still starts with hand crank.  We have a building for cascade system.  We have 3 trailers: Decon, Emergency response, and Spill Trailer.  We have all this on an operating budget of $110,000/year.  We've learnt how to stretch our dollars over the years, and everything we do we don't just jump we put sometime and thought into it.  We're just like everyother volunteer dept out there we only have just the few dedicated members, but we sure the hell get things done!!!!! Note on the photo, it is an older one about 2 years.  The truck on the right is our old rescue an 1983 ford ambulance.  The 1987 Salsbury Mack isn't in this photo.
