I've been looking for a way to compare Fire Dex to Globe and Morning Pride. The Dept I'm in has all Fire Dex, not being familiar with this make/brand I don't trust it like I would trust Morning Pride or Globe. I'd like some in put on just how Fire Dex compares to the more noted brands. Any help is greatly appriciated.

At one of my departments we are issued FireDex and at my other department we are issued Morning Pride. After wearing both sets for quite some time on various types of runs and in various conditions, I personally would choose Morning Pride over FireDex any day of the week. It is lighter and sturdier. It moves with you instead of against you. It stands up to abuse alot better. It also comes with more available options.

Personally, I like a coat with the longer tails in the back but shorter in the front to allow for more leg movement and bending but also affording you more back protection when crawling. I am sure that all of the different manufacturers meet the NFPA requirements, but I prefer Morning Pride.

My advice would be to have both manufacturers loan you a demo set of gear and try them both out for a period of time and then make your decision based on function, comfortability, protection, and last but not least price.
Contact the sales person for each manufacture and have them bring demo sets to show you how theirs is put together, types of liners, vapor barriers, options etc, then get a set of specs put together and put out to bid, myself i like the globe GX-7 gear .Oh and if you are lucky the rep may even leave a set for you to try .
Each manaufacturer has different lines, or models of PPE. Like anything else, you may have a budget-model of one brand, and a top-line spec of another, so naturally there will be differences. The important factors are fit. Most use the same materials from the same source, but alot has to do with how it is assembled. Stitching and shell patterns for instance.

If your salesman brings down various sizes of a model of gear that your not going to get, you will see the difference upon delivery. That does happen. But just trying on different sizes to see what fits, and that's what you get does not compare to total individual measurements. There is more to consider than sleeve length, inseem, etc.

Morning Pride probabaly puts more money into advertising, at least they did before. The catalog read like an encyclopedia! Over the years I have had top-level lines from Janesville (V-FORCE), Globe (G-XTREME), Cairns, and 3 sets by Morning Pride. I had one bad experience with Morning Pride, but it was becouse of sales, and poor measurement 9left to the "customer" and not by a salesmen). The Velcro failed and seperated in most spots in a short period of time.
Janesville V-Force was an excellent fit, but had repetaed zipper problems.
I just got my 3rd set of Morning Pride and it is flawless. Some improvements over the last two, and the attention to detail with regards to fit makes a big difference.
About 3 1/2 years ago our County Fire Dept bought 150 sets of the Fire Dex (FX series) to outfit the members of our 7 volunteer Departments and have had no problems with it. I have found it to be a very durable and well fitting set of gear and would recommend it. For the last 2 1/2 years at my career department I have been wearing a set of Globe G Xtreme gear and am also pleased with it. Both are quality gear and actually priced pretty closely to each other. I really don't think that if you are fitted properly for your gear that there is a measurable amount of difference between the two as far as safety goes. Unfortunatley I really can't give input on the Morning Pride as it's been well over a decade since I'have worn any but as I recall they were pretty reliable also. Hope this helps. TCSS
You guys have given me a lot to think about and ways to research the gear. A committee would probably help on this as well. The dumbest thing about this is that morning pride came in $400 cheaper per set of gear and more options. As for Globe I think they came in just under Fire Dex. I'm all so a FDNY fan and if they are wearing this stuff, how can you go wrong?
