CLEARWATER, Fla. - The City of Clearwater terminated Fire Chief Jamie Douglas Geer Monday, following his arrest by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for Capital Sexual Battery.

Geer, 56, of Dunedin, Fla. was arrested Monday by the FDLE for sexual battery on a person less than 12 years of age, a capitol felony.

FDLE began investigating Geer in August after receiving allegations he had inappropriate relations with a minor. The investigation revealed that Geer had numerous sexual encounters with the juvenile victim over a nine year period.

He is currently being charged with one count of sexual battery on a person less than 12 years of age.

Geer came to Clearwater in 2004 after a brief stint as Interim Fire Chief of a small department in Tennessee.

Geer was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Bond was set at $500,000.

Deputy Chief Robert Weiss will serve as Interim Fire Chief.

"Geer came to Clearwater in 2004 after a brief stint as Interim Fire Chief of a small department in Tennessee."

From an interim chief of a small dept. to the chief of a city of over 110,000 people? Really? Must have been voted in....
Without knowing the "full" story, or having ALL of the facts, I cannot and will not pass judgement on this one. I'm going to wait and see how the trial goes.
I have seen this guy before and he did not seem like a bad guy. Its sad how people can destroy the lives of children. I just hope that after a fair trial, a proper punishment would be given if found guilty. Its ashame.. Poor kids.
Harrison, I agree with your sentiments, if he's found guilty.

On the other hand, the link you posted makes for interesting reading, but is in no way related to this story and blurs the issues....
Innocent until proven guilty...You don't know how hard it was to type those words in a case like this. I have to agree with Brian I'll wait until the verdict is in.
9 years of abuse and the child just turned 17 (you do the math).Sickening.Either way that child is in for a long life of psych MD visits.
Because of the limited information we can't really make any true judgements. If he is found guilty than of course, it's a great thing he is off the streets and people's lives aren't in his hands. That said, you have to keep in mind if this is fully true or not. If it is, it is EXTREMELY sad.
Bon voyage
I knew he was a jackass...he hated female firefighters. He seemed very weird to me at times felt uncomfortable around him. But, I have to say this was a shock to us here in clearwater. We will see what happens in court...can't judge anyone even if I never liked him.
This is extremely sad...cityvof clearwater needs to do a better job hiring and investigating.
no comment. feel for the child/teenager.
It is over for this guy. Even if he is found to be innocent, charges like these will haunt him forever. And if he is found to be guilty, it will be someones jobs just to keep him alive.

One does not get charged with a crime unless there is evidence to support the charges. When dealing with a high profile public figure, the chances of law enforcement / district attorneys not doing their homework, validating that this was not a crying wolf situation. The mere fact that the bail was set at $500k should give you a clue about how serious this is. There is more at stake here than Chief's Geer. Our reputation and image as firefighters, thanks to this individual has been tarnished in the eyes of many... That shadows the trauma inflicted on one little girl and makes me very sad that this even is a forum topic on the FFN.
