My F.D. had it's Centennial back in 1997. Since then I've been to several Centennial celebrations for surrounding F.D's. I was surprised to find out that some area F.D's are only 50 years old or so, some are even younger! Just curious how old everyone else's F.D's are. I'm sure there's some Departments on the east coast that are getting close to their Bi-centennial.
Spokane Fire Department is 125 years old, started in 1884 fully paid since 1889. 1884 we had 2 hose companies and one truck company. Now we have 13 Engines, 3 Trucks and a Rescue.
Our department was the 1st volunteer dept. in the county. It was started 27 years ago. Now there are 14 departments. I think it was started with 2 5 gl. buckets & a pickup truck . LOL . Now have 3 pumpers & a 3000 gl. pumper / tanker.
Well Our Fire Department used to be old but its been about thirty years since it burned down before that i dont know how old it was so i'm gonna say thirty years
The Oil City Fire Department is 139 yrs old. Serving Oil City Pa. Before that it was a group of volunteer Departments not sure when they started still looking into it.
Brian:
Though I have a photo dating back to 1903 of the Woodhull Fire Department, our FIRE DISTRICT is only 62 years old.
Regrettably, much of our history is not recorded, as, over the years and with the changes in leadership, it was not a priority.
I have alot from my 30 plus years. The organization has done much better at preserving history, but the early days are forever gone and each year, we lose older members who can fill in the historical gaps.
History is so important.
