Post your favorite poems about firefighters so every one can see....

Here is a cuple to get the ball rolling....

What is a fireman?

He is the guy next door - a man's man with the memory of a little boy. He has never gotten over the excitement of engines and sirens and danger.

He is a guy like you and me with wants and worries and unfulfilled dreams.

Yet he stands taller than most of us.

He is a fireman.

He puts it all on the line when the bell rings.

A fireman is at once the most fortunate and the least fortunate of men.

He is a man who saves lives because he has seen too much death.

He is a gentle man because he has seen the awesome power of violence out of control.

He is responsive to a child's laughter because his arms have held too many small bodies that will never laugh again.

He is a man who appreciates the simple pleasures of life - hot coffee held in numb, unbending fingers - a warm bed for bone and muscle compelled beyond feeling - the camaraderie of
brave men - the divine peace and selfless service of a job well done in
the name of all men.

He doesn't wear buttons or wave flags or shout obscenities.

When he marches, it is to honor a fallen comrade.

He doesn't preach the brotherhood of man.

He lives it.

A firefighter poem

HE STARES IN THE FACE OF DEATH
WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT
TO SAVE THAT ONE SPECIAL LIFE
THAT HE SO BRAVELY SOUGHT
HE HAS WALKED AS CLOSE TO
"HELL ON EARTH"
AS ANY MAN COULD DO
AND HE'S SO PROUD OF THE JOB HE DID
FOR PEOPLE HE NEVER KNEW
HE PUTS HIS LIFE ON THE LINE
EVERYTIME DUTY CALLS
ALWAYS DOING WHAT NEEDS TO DONE
WITHOUT EVEN A PAUSE
HE IS A FIREMAN
WITH OVERWHELMING PRIDE
NEVER AFRAID TO TAKE A CHANCE
WHEN SAVING SOMEONES LIFE
OFTEN HE SAYS
"IT'S MY JOB"
BUT WE REALLY KNOW
THAT HE IS VERY SPECIAL
AND ALWAYS READY TO GO
SO WHEN YOU HEAR THE SIRENS WAIL
OR SEE THE FLASHING LIGHTS
STAND ASIDE AND LOOK WITH PRIDE
HE'S GOING TO SAVE A LIFE.

an charged it with his own thoughts only to find it latter empty
Dave, please explain what the reference to my page has to do with anything.
To answer your question Derek.....

And there's talk of money being the wrong reason to become a firefighter. I beg to differ.

Along with all the other post where you decide you want to bash people for saying they do the job to help others. Yes it may sound cheesy but read you own response before bashing it. I always say "to judge others you must first judge your self."
Ok, whoa,,,hold on a sec...
Along with all the other post where you decide you want to bash people for saying they do the job to help others. Examples please.

Dave, there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be a firefighter for the reason of helping people, and nowhere did I ever say otherwise. I say, if you're not doing it to help people, then you're in it for the wrong reason. Never did I say it was, as you say, "cheesy".

I do, however, think it's cheesy looking for pride boosters. Things that say,"hey, look at me". It IS possible to be proud for what you have done, and have humility as well. In other words, be proud, just don;t think you're all that and a bag of chips just because you are a firefighter. If that's the reason to become an emergency services provider, then it'sthe wrong reason. Like doing it JUST for the money. Bad idea.
INSIDE OR OUT”

As the alarm rings out,
There’s a sound of a distant shout.
In the dark sky there’s a glow,
As the fire and flames start to grow.

Fear is the feeling in the air,
As everyone is starting to care.
Where was that shout?
Was it from the inside or out?

The intensity of the fire grows,
And then nobody knows.
Where was the shout?
Was it inside or out?

As the smoke grows thick,
And we started to feel sick.
The result of the shout,
Thank God it was on the out.
