SHREVEPORT, La. - The wife of a Shreveport firefighter who died after falling from a city truck in a local 2009 Mardi Gras parade is suing her husband's former department over his death.

In a suit filed this week in Caddo District Court, Traci Adams alleges negligence on the part of Shreveport emergency responders contributed to the December death of Tommy Adams.

The suit claims the responders didn't follow proper procedures in clearing her husband's airway. The suit also contends that a supervisor should not have instructed her husband to clean the fire truck, which led to his fall.

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Fire Chief Brian Crawford said in a statement they were disappointed the suit was filed and will refute all the allegations.

that is really messed up! isnt Cleaning the fire truck in the Job description? i mean, if im wrong, please correct me, but im sure all of you guys at one time or another has done it. i havent yet, because im still in training, but still, thats messed up!
I think its more for the airway
yeah, your probably right, if they messed that up, not good!
Suing over cleaning a truck is obsurd! And even if the main grounds for her suit are based upon an airway not being cleared properly, she stands no chance!

Lawyer: Did you suction the pt's airway if needed?
EMT: Yes
Lawyer: Did you use an oral airway to support the pt's breathing?
EMT: Yes
Judge: Case Dismissed!
I guess this means no more cleaning the truck?!?!? You gotta be kidding me I mean ok if there's proof the airway wasn't managed correctly then maybe but claiming that the supervisor should not have had him cleaning the truck??? Really?? When oh when are we gonna have real lawsuit reform so people maybe, MAYBE, will quit filing crappy suits like this?
An opinion piece written by Traci Adams for publication in The Times July 19, states, "I will be forever grateful for those who responded to him in his greatest time of need, the night of Feb. 21, 2009."

"You have saved us," she wrote, referring to the "brotherhood" of firefighters who responded to her family's cry for help. "Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, love, prayers and support. I am forever in your debt."

Before her husband's return home, firefighters helped remodel the Adams' Shreveport home in June to make it suitable for his recovery. At the time, she said, "You can feel the love being built."

All of this, and she has the nerve to say, F you very much.
