How could they do this? I personally think this is disgusting and the two members are a disgrace. They should be FIRED.

“All of our members take an oath to assist others in need of emergency medical aid. They have a duty to act when called,” said FDNY spokesman Steve Ritea. ~DAMN RIGHT

Be it pledged as an Emergency Medical Technician, I will honor the physical and judicial laws of God and man. I will follow that regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of patients and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, nor shall I suggest any such counsel. Into whatever homes I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of only the sick and injured, never revealing what I see or hear in the lives of men unless required by law.

I shall also share my medical knowledge with those who may benefit from what I have learned. I will serve unselfishly and continuously in order to help make a better world for all mankind.

While I continue to keep this oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life, and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times. Should I trespass or violate this oath, may the reverse be my lot. So help me God.

Is there anyone else disgusted by this?

Valid point craig. I agree with you!
Not that newspaper reporters can't get a story wrong but...either the reporter is doing crack or the two emt's were. I can't imagine how they could not have done...something. But grab their bagels and out the door? su culo es hierba paycheck medics.
Then why are you publicly crucifying them before ALL the information is out????

You really should delete this thread until you know everything. And NOT just from what the press publishes.
Remember; the press will pretty much print anything to sensationalize a story and sell more papers!
They don't have to get it right.
I think they should be terminated and stripped of there patches and not able to get them back ever. They refused to aide someone who needed help, and thats a bad thing.
Yeah, but the mayor isn't backing them, or even staying neutral, that should tell you something that he is publicly appalled.
I was just reading an update and now the story is that they did not have equipment, medications and were just dispatchers not field workers. Yet they were listed as EMT's. When I worked at 9-1-1 I was still a firefighter. When I worked as a maintence worker at a hotel who did they call when a room caught on fire....If you have a license and took a test then guess what, you're an EMT and should be able to at least triage the situation.
This makes me sick to my stomach. I may be a junior in the fire service, but i would still feel compelled to help any person in their time of need. People like this put a bad reputation on the Fire/EMS services. I personally feel that more than a lose of a job should be done. A LIFE WAS LOST, all because of idiotic EMT's that refuse to help. To be truthful this honestly gets me PO'd. This makes me wonder how good of a "job" they did on their previous patients. I cant beleive that someone would put a bagle over human life. May she rest in peace.
where did you find the update?
WOW!!! If thats the whole story with no parts left out then THEY ARE TWO HEARTLESS ASS HOLES!!!! THAT NEED TO BE FIRED NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!! I sure hope thats not the case.....
Just a quick question for some one who knows your legal system better than me. Is it possible that legally they weren't covered to help if they were off duty? Not that that would have stopped me from assisting but I'm just curious what the policy is in this case. As it appears they are about to be sued regardless !
