We were sitting around the firehouse table the other day talking to a couple of rookies and the subect came up (as it always does) of what tools do you carry with you in your turnout gear an how do you carry them...

So, In my right bunker pants pocket I carry 20' of 1" tube webbing and a carabiner. In the left side is a back-up flashlight and IV set up pack.

In my right jacket pocket in a old "hose pouch" I have channel locks, screwdriver, punch and knife.

In the left side I have Door chocks, nails, shove knifes, 8' section of webbing...

How about you guys?

Jake, you just made this up to sympathize with the mindless chatter regurgitated by the whacker crowd. Jack! Get that list out again. Jake needs a reminder.....
I do not have my turn out gear yet, but when we are at a non-fire detail we are in uniform close to are PD, and were duty belts like them. I have an all nylon rig going from left to right, Rescue knife w/ window punch, and selt belt cutter, Gerber multi-tool, VHF Radio, MagLight ring, medical glove pouch, Faceshield, Sure Fire flashlight, Minitor II pouch, and vehicle key holder. When I do get my turn out gear, I will carry my multi-tool, resuce knife, and radio in the jacket. :)
We are issued a spanner and a hose strap and other then a flash light and my gloves that all I carry

AND EXTRICATION GLOVES EITHER ON ON A STRAP ATTACHECED TO MY BELT LOOP AND OR IN ONE OF MY COAT POCKETS, EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE TRUCK CASUE AS YOU GET OFF AND DO YOUR SIZE UP EITHER A WRECK BRUSH FIRE STRUCTURE FIRE TECH RESCUE WHAT EVER IT BE YOU CAN TAKE YOUR TIME GRAB YOUR RIGHT TOOLS OUTTA THE COMPARTMENTS AND NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE EXTRA MESS FOR NO REASON, JUST MY PERSONAL OPPINION NOTH BASHING YALL FOR YTHE TOOLS YOU HAVE OR CARRY CASUE I DID IT, USED TO HAVE A CARGO POCKET TOOL BAG BUT AGAIN FOUND OUT OVER THE YERS TOO BULKY TO MUCH WIEHGT AND NO NOOED TO HAVE IT ALL WHEN ITS RIGHT ON THE ENGINE RESCUE AND OR LADDER.
I always wondered about bailout rope/bailout kits guys carry. Do you use a biner on your rope, crosby hook, or anything else?
And do you just have it to slide down with gloves on, or use a swiss seat and descender or some sort?
What? No "I fight what you fear T-shirt, lights and sirens on the POV, EMS cargo pants, duty belt with all the crap hanging all over it so you have to wear rainbow suspenders with reflector strips to hold the pants up with and three radios and a CB so you can look cool? Bro, your just not cool! LOL!
But Ide go to hell and back with you Bro. ANY DAY!
I carry in my left jacket pocket a hinge hook, in my right jacket pocket a pair of leather gloves, in my left bunker pocket I carry my nomex hood and a pair of gloves that are cloth with the rubber palms (very nice for rolling hose) In my right bunker pocket I carry 15' of webbing with a biner, wire cutters and a small pair of channel locks
I carry the normal stuff. In each coat pocket I carry fire fighting gloves R in R and L in L. My extracation gloves hang off my suspenders. Latex gloves, CPR mask, $1.00 in quarters to stop at a machine to get a mountain dew. On my helmet I have two flashlights and wedges. Other things are in the back of my truck at my reach.
Don't forget you should also carry a brick in your pocket! The brick shall be called the First-In brick, if you follow ICS/NIMS and you are the first on scene, you should be the IC, well if its something screwed up that you know you are unable to handle (i.e. train derailment with haz-mat as well as an mci) you smack yourself in the head with the brick until you pass out, then by the time you wake back up, someone else is there to be the IC and you can do what you're capable of!
I recently picked up a pair of Kobalt Brand (Lowe's) 10" bypass cable cutters, and they have earned a permanent place in my cargo pocket.

They are easy to use with gloved hands (even in blackout conditions), and cut through a lot of stuff easily, inlcuding 1/4' steel cable with no difficulty.
