It is my belief that Television was the beginning of the end of society today. Before TV families had to sit around and get to know each other. People had there priorities inline bills, family, chores....

What do you think the downfall of society today is?

This is a "When did you stop beating your wife" question. It assumes an unproven and unprovable hypothesis.
Politicians !
Oh I'm sorry Loyd, you said invention: lol
Hey, I agree with the politicions. The world was definatly not in as much turmoil before big government!!!
good point carlos
Well Jeff, I guess what im really getting at is more of a question of where did we go wrong? How can we get back to a simpler time and place? When your nieghbors came to your need if they could see you needed help that is.
Loyd, when was that? George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Patrick Henry, John C. Calhoun...all politicians.

There were multiple wars going on simultaneously during the late 1700's, particularly in Europe.
Epidemics killed thousands of people that would survive today, because their medicine was primitive and no antibiotics had been invented. There was no such thing a public sanitation back then. All of those things led to constant turmoil.

We've had the War of 1812, the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War along with yellow fever and malaria epidemics, World War I and the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War...all ended decades ago.

I'm just wondering what you consider "not as much turmoil"???
Your neighbors all used to live and work in the same community. Unless you can invent an economy that allows people to stop commuting to work, then the time that used to be spent taking it easy at home or at the PTA meeting is spent traveling to where you make your living.

And...you're using the Internet to ask about getting back to a simpler time and place.
Do you see any irony in that?
Technology changed our society. Ultimately it destroyed our morals.
To what morals do you refer, chief? The ones that led George Washington to have an affair with another man's wife that led to his fatal case of pneumonia? Benjamin Franklin's womanizing? The Tammany Hall corruption in New York's earlier days? JFK's womanizing? Nixon's use of criminal behavior in an attempt to smear his political enemies?

The number of politicians that engage in corrupt behavior, that have extramarital affairs, or that lie, cheat, and steal for personal gratification and/or gain?

The "morals" that used to make child abuse OK?

The "morals" that let the rich purchase their son's way out of wars that the rich started...often for personal gain?

I'm just wondering how technology is to blame for any of that.

And...you're using technology to complain about technology supposedly changing our society to the point that it destroyed our morals. Do you see any irony in that?
Wow you got alot of dirt in that first paragraph lol do you have anything on gondi or mother teresa

Politicians have already been said in this

Child abuse I am perfectly ok with using a belt on a kid that isnt child abuse. Child abuse is standing back and saying now dont do that when they just go farther and farther down the wrong road.

Paying for your son not to go to war those are not morals. Morals are teachings of how to be a child HOW TO BE A MAN. So we can rethink that one as a down grade

Technology I believe has helped the American People turn lazy. I can agree with that one.

Using it well WHY NOT THIS IS A DISCUSSION NOT A DEBATE FOR PRESIDENTAL ELECTION!!!!!!!
Oh one more thing and you hay not know this but even outlaws held the door open for a lady and took there hat off when they payed there respects. I think that those are MORALS.
