What dose everyone think about wearing helmets in the cabs or not

I have lost most of my respect for the NFPA. I took an NFA class a couple of years ago, and the instructor was a chief from a department in PA. He was one of 7 that sat on the panel that decided to replace turnout gear every 3 years. He said that he was the sole firefighter on that panel. The other six were representatives from the various turnout gear manufactures. He argued that gear was still good after 3 year because not every fire house fights multiple fires daily and the wear and tear isn't present. He was the lone vote against implementing that as a NFPA standard. I truly believe that the reason we have so many new standards like this, is because the NFPA has a bias toward manufactures of products that we have to buy when those now standards are in place.
Agressive Interior Attacks for life, holmes. What makes me laugh are the NFPA stickers on our helmets. "FIREFIGHTING IS A DANGEROUS ACTIVITY" No joke. I guess they skipped that part in our fire academy.
Wow, I am still trying to realize how wearing my helmet makes me ready to go to work on arrival...

Oh that was another post, where we all are wearing our masks and breathing air as we are running hot down the road too. As DT mentioned everyone must be holding a set of irons on their lap LOL

Wait... someone somewhere once said that loose tools inside the cab was dangerous in case we got into an accident so most everyone I know says that is a no/no due to common sense... Hmmmm, I guess that makes common sense to me, just like a fire helmet to causing a serious neck injury while riding backwards during a wreck.

If a guy wore a structural helmet for confined space or high angle, people here would ridicule him. But the bottom line is it is the wrong helmet to provide head protection during a motor vehicle accident. Not designed for that type of blow, and the rear brim is dangerous.

I could care less who instituted this damn policy or standard, could be the new kid or NFPA (who cares) if it makes it safer for us than why are we still debating this?
has any 1 seen the new nfpa helmet hangers ??? i want to know where you are going to put 6-8 of them in a cab they take up a lot of room... and some of the truck mafg. say put them in a comparment a aaa a aa yea get 8 helmets out of a com. thats all we need to add to the cluster
Never, I put my Helmet on once on scene. Thats the first thing i do, rather i'm riding engine, or First Response in my POV
It's already been done.

I got passed on I20 by someone from a neighboring station on a motorcycle in full canary yellow gear, metro style helmet with the then standard 6" faceshield down.

It was all I could do to keep from running off the road because of laughter.
I leave mine off until I exit the cab. I always hit the door frame when it is on.
USED TO WEAR IT IN MY OLD DEPT UP IN N.Y.---IT WAS SOP. ANY MORE I DON'T---BECAUSE I HAVE CLUNKED MY BEANER GETTIN OUT OF THE TRUCK....LOL--- I MEAN WE CANT BE GETTIN HURT TO TAKE CARE OF THE ONES WHO ARE HURT....
Keep your helmet on your lap until you get out. I find the brim on the rear of the helmet extends out a little too much and if the Driver for some reason has to slam on the brakes; I fear my neck my break. Plus it's bad PR
Absolutely NO reason to wear your helmet inside the rig. That's why the new version of NFPA 1901 has a provision for helmet holders written into it. Stay safe!
No longer on our department. Have to use the new helmet holders in the trucks or put them in a rear compartment. I was old school and thought it was cool to wear them en route to a call. But got to go with the goods and bads now.
We don't wear them in the cab and I'm with FETC, still trying to figure out how it makes me ready for work on arrival...
