Mike, the first wildfire FD in your State or the whole USA? Whichever, it's a proud bit of history!

This current fire of yours is certainly a nasty one...
The Weather Channel has a documentary on their When Weather Changed History series on The Great Chicago Fire that I thought was very good.

p.s.-The cow was framed!
The same night of the Chicago, the largest loss of life fire ever occurred in Wisconsin, details escape me, but someone will know. Started from a meteor shower which according to some experts also caused the Chicago fire, or was it the drunken hired man of the O’Leary’s??
Hey Billy, Thank you for sharing your story with us, I beleive that was in
a history book that I had read. Thanks again, stay safe brother.
Dust, I think you may be right, The cow was framed LOL
Hey Capt, Thank you for sharing that bit of history with us, and for the
pictures. We do prey that the firefighters remain safe battling this wild
fire there in Santa Barbara. Loss of property is always difficult to deal
with, but loss of life is not replacable. Stay safe brother
Up where I am, I would have to say the Halifax Explosion might be in the top few. We still, to this day, send a huge Christmas tree, annually, to Boston in thanx for the help they provided.
I don't know about the "history" of the biggest fire ever but in my time I think it was a field fire. I knew it was big when we left one assignment and pulled up and behind an engine from another county. EVery company in the county (21) 8 Kent County companies, 6 Salem County NJ, 4 Cecil County MD, 3 Delaware County PA, 5 Chester County Pa. Several Cover ups from Counties further away.

We've had larger profile fires but this was the most manpower in my 30 years.
Hey Jack, Thanks for sharing that story, as well the pictures, and the history
that went with it.
I read a book about the Hartford Circus Fire called "The Circus Fire" about 6 months ago...I picked it up from the library had never heard of it before and found it fascinating...very detailed and really shows how people act during a tragedy some courageous, some criminal...
The Chicago cow was innocent and eye witnesses saw this suspicious character hanging outside the barn just before the fire broke out...

As far as I know in North Carolina it would be the chicken processing plant in Hamlet where 25 workers died in 1991. Many of them died attempting to get out of doors the management had padlocked.
