"Nicknames" for Your Apparatus?
So... I'm just curious as to some of the general and more specific names given to apparatus from the US and around the world... for example, our pumper is called an engine (yeah, i know alot of people call it that), airel apparatus around our area are refered to as towers, ladders, airel's, trucks... an ambulance is known as a bus or a rig.
More specifically... we have a huge tanker that we call the whale and our older pumper is known as the "popemobile" due to the very high roof on the crew area.

LMAO... I can agree with that one Cap!!! Our 1st due engine is a 2001 KME pumper and we have certainly had some problems with it.

At Greenville Fire in Southern Indiana, our pumpers are engines, our rescues are rescues or squads, our tankers are called tankers but also carries the nickname of "Mack Attack" but in Northern Indiana they are called Tenders, dont ask me where they get that from, our Ambulances are called Squads.

I'm from northwest Indiana and just about everybody I know still calls em tankers too. I'm sure there are plenty of people that do call em tenders but pretty soon we all will. I've said it before and I will say it again... "Until dispatch changes the name from "tanker box alarms" to "tender box alarms," I'm callin em tankers."

Our dive team had to house their huge pontoon boat in our firehouse a while back. Nothing bad ever happened at our station until that darn thing arrived. Now it is called the "F*****G Boat!"

During open house, we let all the local kids put in names for all our rigs. Then we draw names by the school grade.

The only ones that we nicknamed to my knowledge (Kyle & Eric correct me if I'm wrong), was our 74 Tanker. It's name was "Water Boy". The Other one is named by some of our EMTs. It's our older ambulance, rides very hard, named "The Beast".

A 1995 Pierce. BuRT...Big Red Truck. Not very original but everyone has a soft spot for this Engine.

1972 Ford Front mount pumper. OLE' MAW.... need I say more. Hard to get started, smokes like a freight train, and if you get above 60 mph, the lights on the fenders shake a little, well actually a whole lot. LOL
