Hello friends, brothers and sisters of Firefighter Nation. I'm not going to start this blog off like some I have read with the "sorry I haven't been around." Being busy is something that keeps me happy. Work has been slow with the difficult economy and people not willing to spend money to get their homes redone, but I have managed to keep moving forward and finding work where I can when I can.

My basis for the blog is to announce my upcoming marriage on April 25th. I am blessed to have a beautiful fiance (of 7 years now) and 3 beautiful children. I know we obviously did this a little backwards as most people get married then have kids but it worked in our situation. I thought firefighting was stressful until I realized how difficult the process of gathering information and obtaining services was. (at a decent price) It still amazes me that some folks still charge mega money even though the economy is in such a state and their competators are MUCH lower.

I am very excited overall about the wedding. We decided to keep it small (70ish is small by some of the weddings I have seen locally in the 200-500 invitation range) While most of the plans are finalizing I just wanted to seek some imput on the growing nerves that seem to be multiplying daily, and some advice on simple yet nice decorations. (I know it's not everyone cup of tea but ideas come from all sources)

I will post more photos as they become available and also will continue to write a little blog here and there before and after the wedding.

Be well and stay safe out there.

Mike, streamers and small candle jars from the dollar store are pretty nice for the tables. Streamers of course to be hung up.

and re: simple nice decorations....I saved a BUNDLE at my wedding by purchasing cheap but pretty vases in all different sizes at the Dollar Tree--bought cans of silver glitter spray and ribbon and went with a mix of fake greenery (all at Dollar Tree) and some artfully mixed in fresh flowers. They were gorgeous.

Warm wishes to you and Mandi--ignore the yahoos above me and take a little sage advice...if you'd like your bride to still be considering relations post-nuptials...I'd take a pass on Hooters if I were you. I'm just sayin.....
Love you both; wish I could be there (sent you a PM about that).

Congrats Pal!

Forget the rehearsal dinner - when is the stag????

I think marriage is a great institution - I just don't understand why I had to be institutionalized... LOL

Just kidding. We're on 21 years and growing. Occasionally, she even lets me out of the "institution" and I get to go visit other firefighters.

Silly me, I wasn't thinking about the crotch level pictures taken by jokesters before I posted. You know, the ones who would blend the bachelor party with the wedding ceremony. If Mandi is like my wife she can put the fear of God into your Buddies beforehand. I personally attended a wedding with cameras on the tables and all went well. Good luck Buddy.

Yeah Ted, You're right who wants a prude at their wedding. TCSS

Billy,

Thats an idea Mandi and I pondered for a while. It so happened there was an episode of "The King of Queens" on while we were talking about the wedding. In this episode Doug uses the camera to take a very "personal" photo of himself. With my friends from the firehouse being great with jokes (hey I contribute to it daily so I know) that is a scary proposition. :)

Buy a dozen or so decent disposable cameras and place them on the tables at the reception. Collect them afterward for development. You might get some great and funny pics . That way you only need to pay a photographer during the actual wedding ceremony. Good luck on your upcoming event. TCSS

PS Having a reception at Hooters might not go over big with the bride. haha
