I wear corrective lenses and am sure so of you do too. Just wondering how you cope iwith your scba mask? I personally just take mine off I can see up close and not much of a need to see far away when inside a structre.

Bro, they make corrective lenses for your mask. They mount right into your mask or as part of the lens. Check with your SCBA manufacture or supplier.
I wear glasses, but my vision isn't comprised when I take mine off, so I just don't wear them with BA.
Like you said, it's not like you can see a helluva lot inside a working fire, other than the orange glow.

I know of a couple guys from surrounding departments that will either get a prescription lens in their mask, or you can get a spectacle holder that clips onto the inside of your mask.

Check with your SCBA dealer, they should be able to get the lense holders that fit inside your mask.
And there is a lot of need to see both near and far while wearing your SCBA, get properly equiped before you or someone else gets hurt or worse.
Can you wear contacts? I have tried the mask lenses I personally did not care for them.....You just have to find what works for you
hmm well i know its not osha/nfpa (whatever they are) doesnt like it but i wear mine under my mask.... i get a hell of a headache sometimes cause i wear the mask pretty tight but never had a problem with it leakin. i mean if i dont wear them i cant see anythin over 3 ft away so yea it sucks especially at night. i did it once and never again. i am going to get correct lasik surgery from either the army or pay for it myself. i cant wait to get it
do you have an idea on cost? we are a vol dept and it would be me buying them.
WELL JUST LIKE CHIEF SHARP SAID, THEY MAKE CORRECTIVE LENSES FOR SCBA MASK OR A BRACKET TO HOLD A SPARE SET OF GLASSES YOU HAVE...I SALE ISI's AND IF STATED IN YOUR SOP OR SOG THE DEPARTMENT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS FOR YOU, THAT IS IF THEY VALUE YOU AS A FIREFIGHTER...BUT YOUR WRONG, ANY TIME WHEN YOUR ON A SCENE YOU NEED TO BE A 100% INCLUDING YOUR VISION...USE YOUR CHAIN OF COMMAND AND I BET THEY WILL FIX YOU UP BROTHER...HATS OFF TO YA AND BE SAFE OUT THERE...
You may or may not be aware that you can get a fitting for your mask so that corrective lenses can be mounted in your mask....You may want to talk it over with your foreman and see about fitting your mask for the lenses....Paul
i'm getting ready to buy mine from U.S. saftey and its gonna be about $130
Aside from corrective lens face pieces fopr Scott mask..they also have those spring like glass frames that you can twist and bend and basically drive over the frames and they return to flawless position..when you put on the mask they conform under the masks seal to face..and of course there are always contact lenses...In a structure filled with smoke not a big deal i agree but on a roof in the tower ..on a MV Fire..you wanna see more than 5 feet ahead .. iwear glasses as well and from sun up till bed time pop in lenses ..then my glasses after midnight..Also i do have to say cause i know a few guys who wear glasses as well despite lack of vision in a smoke filled toom its a mind set thing if you can't see but its clear over can't see and its all blurred and fuzzy your mind gets retarded about it and plays tricks on you.so seeing nothing clearly (sounds stiupid ) is necessary
i cant see without my glasses very well... but i can take them off and still see but far away is blurry.. but when u have mask on and in a burning building cant really see no matter how good ur eye sight is..
I bought a lens kit for my S.C.B.A still need to see when walking up to the door.
