So after probably fifteen years of this nasty habbit I have just about decided it is time to give it up. I guess my question is any of you guys, or girls, that have done this sucessfully have any advise? What works best, or what has worked for you. This is definately something I want to do, but sadly I am afraid of failure. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Cold turkey is the only way to go. A few weeks or months of discomfort for added years on your life... is it worth it to you? Do not replace it with eating, perhaps drink water from a straw for a while to take the place of the oral fixation (because that's what smoking is), chew gum, toothpicks, etc. You put yourself in harm's way as a firefighter, don't you think you owe it to your family to do all you can to be safe or healthy otherwise?

Quit and don't look back.. and for the love of God, if you drink, just don't for now.... it's hard enough to quit, enven harder when you have a beer!!

Good luck... only advice is, JUST DON'T SMOKE!!
Well way to go, I quit drinking about 3 years ago cold turkey and I've not had a drop since.
Im with you Kenny on this one i been trying for 10 years now so this is my last time i was told to make a date and do it so i planed on the 25 of this month so i wish you the best of luck on this
I smoked for 17 years. July 2007 I decided to quit. I went to my doctor and he gave me a script for Chantix. I have not smoked since. I had tried to quit before but like most others I was irritable but with Chantix it took the edge off and after a week I did not have the urge or the craving for a smoke. I know some insurance companies are starting to cover the cost of it but if it does not cover it, it will cost you about $125 for a month. Little pricey but I feel was well worth it. I wish you the best of luck in trying to kick the habit.
my uncle tried that stuff and he didnt quit completely but he is down to 1 or 2 cigs. a day..... and a buddy of mine tired it he quit for months and went right back.... and my cuz tried it she never even stopped on it.... so dont really know if it would be worth the money... but glad it worked for u
I also tried chantix, but had some real bad side effects. On the other hand I know people who have taken it with no problems, just be carefull on that stuff.....

Without trying to sound like I am preeching, I would Pray for help It has honestly helped me when I needed it in times severe need.
Smoked for 44 years. Started taking Chantix April 20, 2007. Last cigarette 2 am April 27,2007. Never would have tried without Chantix. Some people have problems when taking it. Do your research and make up your own mind. Good luck.
