just to throw this out there

just wanted to throw this out there a department that i was recently on had an old BEER delivery truck as a rescue rig as far as special rescue and extrication works well with a support vehical for rescue calls and other incidents for refilling scbas and what not

back to the nfpa thing i could be wrong but i remember an artical sometime last year about a dept that had an old 6x6 (military) that was in a wreck and nfpa came in and did an investigation and found numourous problums to include baffeling and brakes that were not made to standard and denied coverage

Denied coverage for what? The NFPA is not an enforcement agency

I can see an insurance company denying coverage, if in fact there were maintenance issues or lack of repairs. The NFPA sets up standards and specifications for departments to follow, voluntarily.

Having been with volunteer departments for some 30+ years now, I agree with Anne, You take what you get and make it work.

We had a old breadtruck it was our utility & cascade unit it done the job real well and the truck was free now what co.would turn that down

We retro-fitted one of these as well... it was not a beer truck but was a Coca-Cola truck in it's previous life.

Low miles, Detriot Diesel, Two man cab and we use it for as our Mass Casualty Response Unit. We purchased it for ONE DOLLAR from a local beverage distributor. We were told that the drivers prefer an automatic transmission. So this rig seen more time in the yard than over the road. We have had it in existance for 10 years now. Set-up for 100 patients. Not as glamourous as all of the new Homeland Security money being spent on the MCI trailers since 9-11.

But is works well and you don't have to tow it.

unless its a tender... with all the accidents involving surplused military vehicals being used as tenders last i heard they were making some changes to nfpa stuff to incorp military 2 1/2 and 5 ton trucks being used as tenders becuase of all the retrofitting you have to do to be able to use them as a tender.....
