Any body else absolutely love going to the schools and doing fire prevention. If so what grade and why. My favorite grade is pre-k through 4th and of course the day cares.
There is nothing like watching all the kids face’s pratically break in half because they are smiling so big when they see the fire trucks. Especially when they get to sit in them. Also what is your favorite part of the inservice. Mine is dressing up in the turnout gear and crawling into the class room.
I love to do it, unfortunately, the local schools don't want to make the time any more. They are too afraid taking the time away from teaching students how to pass the TAKS test, and being an exemplary school in the eyes of the State. Oh yeah, they still have fire drills, because they have to by law. Sorry I'm just getting cynical in my old age.
I love doing the preschools and the kindergartners. They are so eager to learn and they listen so intently. We talk to the kindergartners when we do the fire drills at the schools.
When I use to set up Fire Prevention Week, we'd go to the grade school with our trucks and equipment. We would spend the day. The highlight of the kids' day was finding out which class we would have lunch with. They really had a thing about eating lunch with us.
At the end of the day, we would invite their teachers to some kind of water sports.
We still do Fire Prevention Week, but DVDs have pretty much taken over the program.
It is time well spent.
