ok so im the only girl in my post and an on top of that im the chief of the post. i get the feeling some of the guys don't like this but im not sure. especially since i beat them at some of our drills. do any of you guys have girls in your posts and what do you think about this matter? please let me.
In my station we have six female firefighter and they all do a really great job and they have my respect.
The problem I am seeing is with you being a chief you should not be rubbing your firefighters noses in the fact that you are beating them at anything. You should be helping your people learn and improve at what they are lacking in.
Your firefighters do not owe you respect because of your title respect is earned threw your actions so if you are picking at them or calling them out and keep saying you are better then them it makes it a lot harder to earn their respect.
Watch your people see what they need help with and help them pratice until they get it. Always show your people you are willing to work with them and are interested in their progress if you see them inproving tell them so it will help improve moral. Then thats when they will not have a problem with you being chief and if you show them respect then they will show it back.
hey u know what if u perform to your best ability and are safe about it take of it from a crusty 12 year vet of the emergency services girls just as good as guy do what u do and do it safe also remmember stay safe and be professional jake riel
now that isee ur chief try to show ur men what the y lack in skill but not os that feel offended if ur still having trouble go to your post commander and ask on how to relate to your men
Hi my name is cory and i joined the North Highlands fire department as a explorer we have three girls in our post and they are just as good as the guy's and im not mad. Some guy's are jerks but my opinion is we are all a family. My email is Cory_lyns@yahoo.com write me sometime and we can talk more about what we love.
I was looking at your page sorry to hear about that kids who didn't make it,as firefighters we do not have full controle of everything.Life will throw us a curve know and then.
cory
we have one girl on our dept. she is the first firefighter certified girl we have ever had. id go in with her anyday and the guys in ur dept. may just feel like they are being shown up and dont like it but dont worry bout them. Have fun and be safe.
i am a 19 year veteran male of fire and rescue. last nite i just signed my 18 y.o. daughter to start training with the department im with i am also the capt. so i watch extra careful. she has watched me work for many years , iam afraid she has been bitten by the vfd bug
Hang in there . You're just as or more capeable as the guys . You must be better then them if you beat them at drills. Just don't worry about what they think. You are probably going to be a better firefighter than them anyway. Keep up the good work.-Be Safe
We have a girl on our department and ill tell ya i wouldnt have come as far as i have ine the fire service if it wasnt for her taking the time to show me how to do get my SCBA on on my first fire call. Ill tell ya my hats off to all the women in the fire and medical services
Hi chelsea i am an assistant chief of my department and i just wanted to tell you that i am a huge supporter for women being a part of this industry. I have talked plenty of girls into joining as firefighters and not just fundraisers remember that there is nothing that a male can do that a female cant. Honestly some of my best members are women and they do everything that everyone else does and some cases better than anyone else. So continue to do what your doing and dont worry about what the rest think if you have confidence in yourself and what you do it will show after all you didnt make chief for doing nothing you must be doing something right. Stay Strong and safe.
hey, coming from a girl in almost the same situation i say go ahead hun do your thing. The guys may act like they don't like having you arround, or you are cramping their style cause you are a girl in "their territory" but if you are doing good at what you do, keep doing it. you may teach them a lesson. Thats whats been going on here. even though we have had a few girls join since i did, they dont really do much. but the guys have learned to respect me and i respect them. We all do what we can and being a guy or girl doesnt even matter as long as you are doing your job. =] so keep it up girl! (just realized this is really late hahaha oh well), Jen 82
