Federal Grants
well just received another white envelope from fema, sorry to inform you gentlemen you do not qualify for our funds , but, yet joe blow department down the street just received their fourth- fifth federal grant, plus founding fathers tax the s>><> out of their tax people now how fair is this i feel you get your funds this yeAR you shouldn't be able to get funds for a while so that other departments be able to get the money

i hope you get them. i have bought things off ebay out of my own pocket i have painted trucks rebuilt tanks begged for funds we arent as baad a shape as you sound but a new truck would be nice we just got a block grant and replaced a 33 yr old truck. with an 18 yr old truck now im working on it

WHAT BUGS ME ABOUT GRANTS AND NEW TRUCKs AND NEW GEAR IS THAT THE DEPTS that get them get them every year or every othere year replacing equipment not only a couple of years old.. Or replacing trucks not that old// While smaller depts who really don't have alot of money get turned down and run around with old equipment and old trucks.. I thought the reason for these grants was to help depts upgrade to newer equipment for safety,and newer trucks .. Instead depts are getting these trucks with enough parade chrome on them to blind a person and spend sooo much money on them so they can wave out them twice a year to the kids... Still pumps the same as my old crappy one in my barn.... we just don't wave out it any more afraid the rust on it would fall off and blind a child.... These officals need to anity it out fair.. but who am i except a lonely old member

Hi this is Ja,es here.In the United States Federal grants are economic aid issued by the United States government out of the general federal revenue. A federal Grant is an award of financial assistance from a federal agency to a recipient to carry out a public purpose of support or stimulation authorized by a law of the United States.
Grants are not federal assistance or loans to individuals, benefits or entitlements. A grant is not used to acquire property or services for the federal government's direct benefit.
Grants may also be issued by private non-profit organizations such as foundations, not-for-profit corporations or charitable trusts which are all collectively referred to as charities.
Outside the United States grants, subventions or subsidies are used to in similar fashion by government or private charities to subsidize programs and projects that fit within the funding criteria of the grant-giving entity or donor.

I have gotten several grants thru fema. It kind of depends on how needy your dept. is and what you are asking for. Do you have anyone that can help you with a grant next year and have you received any grant moneys yet? I hav submitted 7 and got 3 since 2003. that includes this year that is just starting to move.

We just got our first grant. We put in it for it every year. I think the biggest problem why we didn't get one before was the quality of our grant writer. The most successful Depts. do the best job in writing/justifying getting the grant. Good luck next time.

if you can afford to pay $500 or as much as 500 per month to a grant writer . i understand some depts have them on a retainer so to speak to fill out grants . if i had the money to pay a grant writer i could make payments on a truck . there for the system isnt fair no matter how you butter coat it . bless there heart im happy for them , but if you get 3 grants out of 7 why shouldnt the dept that has applyed 7 times gotten 1 or at least told why they werent getting one . as far as justification i have pulled a truck back to the station after a major house fire . how would we do our job had it of broke down on the way to the fire . thank god that truck is no longer here . we replaced it with a state block grant. we changed out a 34 yr old truck for a 19 yr old truck

there guide lines must not be adheried to a dept in my county has never had much of a traing program has no nims no driver training and they got a 200000.00 + dollar truck last year we train have 13 of 16 driver certifed nims for 16 meet all state requirment for reporting and training above training requriements

we know what they are and where they come from. asstanstance to firefighters grants are the only ones im interested in federal anyway thats the one we are talking about right now . we just would like it to be fair for everyone. dont repeat till everyone gets there share . we paid federal tax too i understand compettive but after you get the the secound one . it may all be over by 2010

We have used grant writers crossed our t's dotted our i's jumped through hoops and did not step on the cracks still we have missed the boat. I understand where you are coming from i have seen a department replace stuff that was almost new . Wish they would donate to the needy we would appreciate it very much .
