Are you smart enough to be a Libertarian? We do not have generations of Libertarians, who because their parents voted Libertarian, are now a Libertarian. The party is to young for that. The Mega party has members who, the only reason they vote the way they do is because mom and dad voted that way. Therefore no thought has gone into the decision.

No to be a Libertarian you have to think. You have to consider what your principles are and then research what party has the best match with your views. So anyone who is a Libertarian has thought about their personal values, then gone a step further and looked at the different parties. Then picked the Libertarian party as the right party for them.

This is why I ask if you are smart enough to be a Libertarian. Can you do a honest evaluation of what you believe? Can you then look at the political parties and decide who is best for you? I did. I found that I value personal liberty and personal responsibility. I value a limited government and limited taxation. I value the U.S. Constitution and a government that follows those rules. I value our God given rights and I expect the government to defend my rights.

What do you value? Do you value the nanny state? Do you like being controlled from womb to tomb? Do you like working 1/3 of the day for the state before you begin to earn money you can keep for yourself? If you think I am wrong add up the taxes you pay. Income tax, social security tax, sales tax, property tax, school tax, all of the fees, like drivers license, license plates, any professional licenses you hold.

Do you like taking care of not only yourself and your family but others who have come to depend on the government for their subsistence? Do you like being told what you can do in the privacy of your own home? Do you like you hard earned money being taken from you, then used to buy your vote? Do you like supporting big business so they can pad the bottom line with your tax dollars?

Over the next few weeks I will expand on each of these. I will show how the U.S. leadership violates the rules it must live by, uses your tax dollars to buy your vote, and invades your rights instead of protecting them.

Ah, yay, another libertarian! My folks keep telling me to join a "real party"... I think its exactly that sort of thinking that perpetuates the two-party system.

Did I mention that I was supporting Fred Thompson for President?
And on the state level, I will consider any snake under the rock to beat our current governor.
He hurt this state real bad.

Rob, Art,
I would call myself a Libertarian and have for about 7-8 years. But and it is a BIG but I vote republican because I would rather have a Republican in office then a Democrat. Are they perfect, well we all know that answer, but until the Libertarians come up with a candidate for president who can win. I am going to avoid another 1992/1996 when the conservative middle class voted for Ross Perot and ended up with Clinton I for president with about 40% of the vote.

I will only say that I am smart enough to be a Republican and that's by choice. I wasn't born into it and there was no great epiphany in my life that took me to the Promised Land.
I have been involved in politics since I was seventeen.
Being "smart" and politics can be an oxymoron.
And "smart" in and of itself is a very subjective word.
The fact that people are involved in politics is a good thing; not necessarily the smart thing, in some cases.
I would even consider a third party at some point, when there is a viable alternative to the two party system.
You know; kind of a cross between a conservative Democrat and a moderate Republican.
