funeral info for firefighter George J. Baranieck you will be misst by all

George J. Baraniecki, 64, of Terryville, husband of Frances (Orsini) Baraniecki died Sunday at the Bristol Hospital.

George was born April 8, 1944 in Chirnside, Scotland, son of the late Joseph A. & Emilia (Zielinski) Baraniecki. He immigrated to Canada and was raised in Weston, Ontario, Canada. He attended St. Michaels College in Toronto, and also Southern Connecticut State College where he received his B.S. in education, and received his Masters of Education degree from the University of Hartford. During his college years he played hockey for St. Michael’s College and football at Southern Conn. State College. Prior to his retirement he was a math teacher at the Harry S. Fisher Middle School in Terryville for 35 years. During his teaching career he was team leader at the Harry S. Fisher Middle School for many years, was chairman of the Math Dept., he served as the Student Council Advisor for 18 years, and in 1996 he was selected as Plymouth’s teacher of the year. He was also a candidate for the Connecticut Teacher of the Year in 1996. George was recognized among the nations most respected teachers and was placed in the Who’s Who Among American Teachers. George also was a mentor at Terryville High School & Harry S. Fisher Middle School.

George was a communicant of St. Casimir Church, Terryville, member of the Terryville Volunteer Fire Dept for 7 years, he was a member/treasurer of the Plymouth Board of Fire Commissioners for 23 years and was selected as the board’s commissioner of the year in 1988 and 1994. He was also a member of the Torrington Elks, the Terryville Fish & Game Club, Phi Delta Kappa, involved with State Dept. of Environmental Protection and served as a D.E.P. Lake Patrol Officer. He was also a recipient the Secretary of State’s Public Service Award. He was also president of the Lake Winfield Condo Assoc. George always had a passion for fishing, hockey and the New York Rangers. His contagious humor always made people laugh.

Besides his wife he leaves his daughter, Kimberly Baraniecki, stepson Philip Batick, sister, Marta Zanelli & her husband John both of Ontario, Canada, mother-in-law, Sophie “Bachi” Bukowski, brothers and sisters in law, Tony & Barbara Orsini, Jean & Dave Sekorski, nieces & nephews, Christopher Zanelli, Irina & Val, Andrea & Ray Dahmer, Douglas & Katlyn Sekorski, Lauren and Daren Damboragian, great nephew, Ryan Zanelli and great niece, Alexa Damboragian.

Funeral services will be held Friday 9:30a.m. from the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville to St. Casimir Church, Terryville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00. Entombment will be in Holy Family Mausoleum, Bristol. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00p.m.
