Wildland fire suppression is part of the job of a forester. I had the physical ability to perform on the fire line for my entire career, working as a firefighter, engine boss, crew boss, strike team leader, division supervisor, and type 3 IC on numerous fires throughout the Western US.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Incompetent administrations - national and local. Lack of financial support until something bad happens.

Thanks William. I realize your primary members are structural firefighters, but a wildland person here and there can't hurt. I have done some incident management for other emergencies, like Katrina. But primarily I did what most people would call "forest fire fighting". I did a lot of that though, in many different fuel types across the west. The extra money I made doing this work helped me raise a family and send kids to college, build houses, etc. And I know I made a difference. My last fire assignments were in 2006, and since then I have been training others...Ken
