Fire Chief (retired) John J. Bierling has been in the fire service for more than 46 years. His career began in New York State in 1965 as a volunteer in Middletown, NY and in 1992 John retired as the Deputy Chief of Operations of the City of Newburgh Fire Department. In 2000, after eight years as the Chief of the West Manchester Township Fire & Emergency Service in York Pennsylvania, he decided to turn his attention to teaching. John has a Bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City and has been actively teaching emergency responders for more than 36 years. Presently, Chief Bierling is the CEO of The Incident Management Team (IMT), a consulting company that teaches incident management and facilitates the OurTown Diorama Incident Command Training Programs throughout the nation. John and his wife Jan travel together, planning and presenting programs to emergency responders, health departments, hospitals, airports, private industry, and local government. He can be reached at John@incidentmt.com and the company web site is www.IncidentMT.com.
I love being with emergency responders (they're good folks).
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Health and Safety - I am on a mission to help responders improve their overall wellness. When we are healthy; physically, emotionally, and financially, then we can focus our attention and energy on helping the community.

John, you sent a message a while back and have just now gotten to checking my messages... Please send an email to david.martinez@colemanfire.com with the info!
I am glad to have you as a friend. I will be pushing seventy three (73) this coming January. Been around for a long time, but as you know once a firefighter you will always be involved until the last bell rings.
John,
Thanks for the friend request. I used to work in Newburgh about 25 years ago for Newburgh Auto Auction, then for Consolidated Ambulette, and my mom used to teach Art at South Junior High and NFA. I moved to Florida about 20 years ago, but I miss it up there.
Sorry it took so long to reply to your friend request. I don't access FireFighter Nation to often. I get the e-mails & ck in when I can. Thank you for the welcome.
Hows it going John, I saw your personal message with your friend request but I didnt realize after I hit accept your message disappeared, so I didnt write down your email address. If you could please send it again I would appreciate it along with your message. It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the welcome, since retiring I worked at Radio Shack for over 6 years and then became a full time granddaddy to the most awesome granddaughters a man could have - they are now 14 and 9, when I can't hang with them I work with several churches helping families that need help, but if I can I'm usually taking pictures of something, it's the only hobby I've kept up with since I was 11 or 12 years old.
Nice home page, I enjoyed reading it, it feels good to be back with "my family" as I've been retired since 98. I was elected in November as an Alderman in my home town of Woodland Mills, TN, and I serve on the Local Emergency Planning Committee and have been appointed to receive training to become the new Public Information Officer for the LEPC in the event of an emergency. When it gets in your blood (Fire Service) you just can not stay away. As I can see on your home page, great to hear from you.
Hi John. You are my first friend on FirefighterNation. I took a couple of classes at NFA. That is where I met my husband, Chris Waters. Did you know him? He was the Haz Mat chair at NFA.
Hi John, Thank you for the invite and also for your years of service. Wow, forty six + years! I guess you can really say, been there and done that? IMT, now is the way to go and is recognized throughout the country. Take care!
