    Hello.
Me and Ryan are official now :) He is away at army training until the 27th though.
We did meet through the fire dept, at a wreck in September actually. He had a girlfriend at the time, we just kinda said hey as he was getting the patient into the ambulance. Then we saw each other again at a parade where both our stations had trucks entered. We talked a little bit before the parade started. He was single at this point, and he said he really wanted to ask for my number but he didn't. Then during the parade he decided he was going to ask for it afterwards, but we got a call to a house fire in the middle and left down a side street so he didn't get to talk to me. So it was through the firefighter 2 class we just finished that we started talking, and after him and his girlfriend broke up he text messaged me asking if I wanted to go on a date.
I don't think he is actually a patch trader, but it is possible he would trade with you. He's about to move into a new apartment so he might want some for decoration haha. I'lla sk him.
How are things going for you?
  • Kasey

No, Florida was just me and Peyton going to visit friends. I'm also hopefully going to Tennessee in July with Peyton, Cameron, and Camerons boyfriend and mom, assuming I can get off work. I haven't gotten my July schedule yet so I won't know for sure until then. The fire dept doesn't affect anything. Its all volunteer so we go on calls when we can and don't when we can't. We have 20-some people on the roll but only about 8 of us that ever run calls.
No, I never heard from the Florida dept. Its strange cause the guy seemed very excited to exchange shirts.
I'm not sure, but I think Ryan has been a firefighter about a year. I know thats how long he's been at the dept near me at least cause he had just joined when we met at the wreck. He was living with his parents about an hour away until recently when he moved in with his grandma to be closer to work. So now he's about 25 minutes from me and about 10-15 minutes from his dept. He's been an EMT for a while though, he works with a paid ambulance service. He'll be starting paramedic classes in august I think.
I haven't had a chance to ask him about swapping yet since he's been away at army training so we haven't been able to talk very much since he's been really tired and stuff, but he's coming back on Saturday so I'll let him know you're interested.
  • Jon Strong

Thanks for patch got it today
  • wayne frary

You like my pics ?, ha ha. We don't mess about too much!. we get all sorts of calls at my station, because we are at the north edge of the city. Lots of smash ups ( rtc's) on the rural roads and city roads, also plenty of fires. We don't realy have patch's here in Norfolk, England anymore, but I might be able to find an older one. I can trade a polo shirt aswell if you are interested ?. Take care my friend.
  • wayne frary

I say polo shirt because thats our uniform. I would like one of your 'working rig' shirts if poss. Used or new, I don't mind. Tell me your address and size, I will try to rustle up one for you.

  • Kasey

hey, sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
I asked Ryan about swapping, he said he's about to switch fire depts so he can't get you one of those right now, but he either said he could get you an army or an iraqi patch. I can't remember which one he said but its something military like if you'd like one.
He's already been overseas once, he got back last June. He's scheduled to be deployed again in Oct 2010, then after that he'll have to decide if he wants to renew his contract with the army or get out.
My work schedule is never the same. Since I'm just part time I get scheduled for anytime of any day. We're open 9-9 monday-saturday so it just depends. Right now I'm only working about 15 hours a week due to budget restrictions, but I'm hoping that closer to Christmas I'll be able to get a lot more hours. Last December I was doing like 36 hours every week.
Tennessee was fun. It was supposed to be 5 of us staying in a 2 bedroom 2 story cabin, but there was a problem with our reservation so we got upgraded to a 3 story 4 bedroom 3 bathroom cabin. It was pretty much huge. Me and Peyton took the 3rd floor, Camerons mom had the second floor, and Ben and Cameron had the first floor. It was fun having the top floor except having to walk up and down 2 flights of stairs all the time haha. There was a big hot tub on the second floor deck so we got in that every night. Each floor had a big screen tv, fireplace, and wrap-around porch. It was kinda like living in a palace compared to what I'm used to haha.
I think you're still on vacation, hope thats going well for you.
    Talk to you soon.
  • Sergeant 8 Timmy Sprouse

    Hey Daniel,
Just wanted to touch base with you to let you know I recieved your patch yesterday and I really liked it. Thanks again for exchanging patches with me. I sent you one of ours the other day so you should be geting it soon. Please let me know when you get it k? Well talk to you later. BE SAFE OUT THERE!!
  • Kasey

Hello daniel robert garvin. I fail at doing timely responses lately.
I'm not sure how Ryan feels about going back. I know he's really nervous and stuff, but at the same time he enjoyed being there before because apparently you really bond with the people you're with. He'll be going with some of the same people he was with before, and also some new people that haven't been yet and he kinda feels like he needs to watch out for the new ones cause they don't understand how dangerous it is.
At Lifeway we have the manager and asst manager, then 2 keyholders, and everybody else is just normal sales people who don't have special priviliges. I'm one of the sales people, but with the exception of 2 other sales people I've been here longer than any other sales people, so I guess in that sense I have seniority haha.
How did your month long vacation go?

  • Kasey

    Hello!
I hope you are still alive?
I haven't been on here much lately, but school is about over for the semester so hopefully I can get more active again. How are things for you?
  • Kasey

    Hey!
Things are going pretty well with me. I'm still working at Lifeway and still going to college. I'm trying to get a full-time job as a 911 dispatcher. I got really close to getting the job with my county (like within the top 6 out of 50) but didn't quite make it. I interviewed with a neighboring county last week but I haven't heard anything so I don't think I got that one. I'm currently going through the testing process with the city, so we'll see if maybe that works out. If I don't get that one, I'm kinda out of options for a while unless I want to commute an hour.
How have things been with you?
  • Ignacio Mongillo

I don´t have any patch now, but as soon as i get one i let you know

    thank you!

    Ignacio Mongillo
Viña del Mar fire dept. Chile
  • Kasey

I hope so! I really think this is what I want to do as a career. Unless I get in there and can't handle it...but I think it would be a good combination of my love of computers and emergencies :) I think whats hurting me is the interviews...I was doing good in my county with the tests, until the interview, and all the neighboring county had was an interview. I haven't really had much job experience to be able to answer a lot of the questions they're asking...but I know that when God is ready for me to get a job, I'll get it.
Your vacation sounds exciting...any big plans?
  • Brian Dumser

I used to collect patches, but I got too many of them with really no place to put them so I sold a bunch of them on eBay.
  • Matyas Petz

    Hello Daniel

  • Daniel Robert Garvin

Thanks Tim....please let me know when it arrives...I will do the same. Stay safe...stay low!!

    Daniel
  • Kasey

Yeah, I made sure that was known haha. I figure the firefighter thing will be the best thing in my favor.
We have actually gotten a decent amount of snow this season...I remember complaining to you last year that we didn't get any :) We've gotten 10+ inches twice, and several small amounts. My friend from Florida was here for the first big one. It was her first time sledding so she was extremely excited. My dad brought over a tractor tire tube for us to sled on, so me, her, and my other friend peyton could all go down together. I injured my back in one of our wrecks and it hurt for about 2 weeks. But its ok now except on rare occasions.
    Hope you enjoy shoveling snow!
  • Davi de Souza

Will send two of my department patch.
I have two patches of the police for you, are very valuable, but for me no longer have value because they do not want to collect patch police.
Are you interested in them? Trade with you.
Police patches that I have are the elite troop ''BOPE'' and the elite troop the army brasilian ''COMANDOS''.
  • Davi de Souza

Ok, I will send to you two of my patch of the fire department and three police patch.
    Total: five patches.
    You get five patch too?
  • Kasey

I hurt it on a sled wreck. I flipped over Peytons head once so I think thats when it happened. And yeah I think we are covered if something happens at work.
Your new station sounds amazing! Ours has 6 bays and a kitchen with a 20 year old stove haha. Last night at our meeting we feasted on frozen pizza and grocery store cake.
I got a call a few minutes ago that I have an interview with the city on march 15. This is the one that has 3 openings, where everything else I've interviewed for only had 1. So I'm hoping I might have a little better chance with this one :)
  • stuart mckay

absolutely, my email is smckay@myseafood.com. We can exchange mailing info

    stu
  • Kasey

Thank you! I had to go turn in the personal history statement today. The secretary lady is really nice, and we were just sitting there talking, and she was like "YOU NEED TO MAKE BETTER EYE CONTACT." so then she told me a couple things that will help me out with the interview.
Yeah everybody at our department is like family. They'll come see me at Lifeway occasionally, and we go out to eat and stuff. It's only between 6 and 8 of us that are active. We've started having Christmas parties and exchanging presents. And we celebrate birthdays at our monthly meetings. Its fun :)
  • Blair Rivette

Thank you for the add Daniel.

Yes we can swap department patches. Send me your address in my inbox.
  • Peter Barriscale

    Hi Daniel,
    Greetings from Ireland.
We no longer have separate patches on our shirts. They are either embroidered or printed on them now. I can send you a T-Shirt if you like. Let me know your size and I'll get the nearest I can for you. Let me know your postal address and we can exchange.
I see from your profile that you are interested in violence against crews. I am doing a research project at the moment to see if our measures and procedures meet international best practice in this area. I would love to hear how your department handles this too. Happy to discuss any other aspect of the job too.
I lok forward to hearing from you.
    Regards,

    Peter.
  • Peter Barriscale

    Hi Daniel,
I hate to break it to you but we don't have a County Dungarven. We have a couple of villages and one large town called Dungarvan and that's in County Waterford. I guess that's where you are refering to.
Waterford County is in the sunny south-east of the island and Dungarvan is a nice town. Check it out on Google Earth.
I will organise a shirt for you - do you want me to address it to you at the station or elsewhere?
I am a Station Officer (Captain) in Dublin Fire Brigade with 28 years service. We have about 900 full-time operational personnel spread over 4 watches in 12 stations. In some areas of the city we are regularly attacked by youths with stones, botles and other missiles and several firefighters have been injured. We usually wait for police back-up in these areas too. We also run paramedic ambulances and crews often get verbal and physical abuse while dealing with incidents. We do have reporting and counselling measures in place, but I feel that more could be done on the prevention of incidents through community liaison and education initiatives in certain areas.
Could you or someone in your dept provide me with statistics of incident numbers and types over the last few years and details of your reporting procedures, counselling and any other initiatives you might have in place. That's the sort of info I need for my research and I would be very grateful for any assistance you can give me.
Anyway, let me know where to send the shirt and I'll organise it for you.
    Take care.
    Regards,

    Peter.
  • Peter Barriscale

    Hi Daniel,
My shirt size is large too.
    My address:
    8 The Heights
    Melrose Park
    Swords
    Co. Dublin
    Eire

I'm on transfer to another station at the moment but will be back in my own one on my next tour on Tuesday, so will send the shirt on Wednesday.
Any info your friend can source for me would be appreciated.
What about your Dept? What size of population and geographical area do you serve? We have about 1.5 million and 356 sq miles.
    Take it easy,
    Peter.
  • Kasey

I had my interview today. I think it went well, or at least better than the interviews at the other places. It was a panel of 3 interviewers, and they all seemed to like me, especially the director. So even if I don't get hired I at least don't feel like I made a fool of myself :)
There is supposed to be 10 people total interviewing, with 2 positions open. They said I should hear something the end of this week or beginning to middle of next week. If I do make it through, I have to pass a polygraph test, psychological test, physical, and drug test.
  • Kasey

They called me this morning and said that I made it through the interview! So Monday I'm going for a sit-in with the dispatchers to watch them and see what all they do, then Tuesday I have the polygraph test. So hopefully I can make it through the rest of the tests okay and get hired! The only one I'm really concerned about is the polygraph, just because I'll be nervous about it and they might think I'm lying about my name haha. But I know I don't do drugs, and as far as I know I'm not psychotic or in bad health. So I'm hoping for the best but trying not to get too hopeful in case it doesn't work out.
  • Davi de Souza

Hello friend, I received their patches today. I am very grateful for them. Are great, worth our patches are not so, because we have the army restrictions on the size of patches on the uniform.
I already sent my patches to you too, will be arriving on 30 March.
Let me know when you receive.
    Davi de Souza
  • Matyas Petz

    Hello Daniel...

i have got the patches. Great for my colletction.
    Thanks
    keep you in my mind....
    stay safe
  • Peter Barriscale

    Hi Daniel,
I posted the shirt yesterday so it is on the way to you. My eldest daughter was 21on Thursday so prep for the party night last night took over most things this week. Thanks for talking to the chief for me and I'll talk to you again soon.
    Take care,

    Peter.
  • Kasey

I went for my sit-in Thursday for 4 hours. It was pretty fun, and eye-opening. I'll have a whole lot to learn if I get the job haha.
  • Peter Barriscale

    Will do Daniel,
    Looking forward to seeing it.
Take it easy and take care,

    Peter.
  • Kasey

No, I didn't get paid for it. It was just to see if I thought I could handle it or if I panicked. I had the polygraph today. It really wasn't that bad. The guy said everything looked good so he thought that I should be hearing something soon :)
