that's a great story...about the patient and the water...
  • Chris Dilley

My paid job is making contact lenses at a manufacturing plant. They are so afraid of OSHA we are limitied in regards to what we can & cannot do at the facility. My "for free" job is where all of the danger & excitement come from, and that is as a volunteer firefighter for CCFR. This makes night #4 in a row of making contacts, can't wait to get back on the truck tomm night. I'll start to hunt down a few station patches tomm night and I will look throught he navy patches and see what I have left. been out of the active duty navy for almost 10 years now, hard to believe. Enjoy the evening my friend

Have you received my patch yet. I sent it last week sometime. Let me know.

  • Chris Dilley

Yeah we make probably the best contact lenses on the market here (acuvue brand). it's a good job, just on the boring side. Thanks for using the products.
  • GirlyFireFighter

I would love to trade patches hun...
  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
My wife says the same thing, and I guess that it does help people live better lives, it's just after making a few million it does get to be a tad bit boring... the 12 hour night shifts do nothing for the family life either. On the other hand, it does beat the former employer who would take me away for 6 months at a time. Glad you are happy with the product. I do hope that we will find even more ways to improve the comfort & fit of the lenses. A big market of customers still await us.

  • Kasey

Me and that guy have officially been in a relationship for a week now :)
Peyton got accepted to the university she wanted to go to in Washington DC, so I'll be making that 5 hour drive about once a month haha. I was really hoping she'd pick the one at the beach, but I guess Washington is cool too.
That patch must be awesome, how did you get it?
The fire dept has had a pretty exciting 2 weeks. Probably about a week and a half ago we were called to a wreck, a girl was speeding and lost control and overcorrected and went airborn up an embankment and hit a tree on the drivers side door and her leg got caught between the dashboard and the door. She had to be extricated and ended up having a broken femur. We flew her out.
Yesterday we were called to a cancer patient in cardiac arrest, dispatch said that family was doing CPR. Me and dad were a little ways out but we got there right before they took the guy to the ambulance, so everybody ran out the room. It was just me and dad and one other woman in there cleaning up, and she told dad that the guy was on hospice and had DNR papers but she hadn't seen them. So we searched the house and finally dad asked the mans wife and she found them. So he ran out to the ambulance right before it left and they stopped trying. I went to a prom with the mans grandson last year. The whole family lived in one house so I guess they were pretty close.
Have you had any exciting calls lately?

  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Got the patches today. What do you use the rubber one for? I am going to track down a few more station patches this weekend for you. Stay safe up there buddy & thanks again
    Chris
  • Kevin O'Grady

Hi Daniel - Just want to let you know two patches , one fire and one EMS are in the mail to you.

    Stay safe Kevin
  • Chris Dilley

The rubber patch is quite unique to say the least. I am surprised that they can withstand the washing & drying process. Working on getting you a hazmat patch from our hazmat station. One of my friends who is the vol lt at that station is the one who ordered them and he owes me a few favors. Headed out today to hopefully get some pics from a training burn for our ff1 volunteer class. Got to try out my Nikon that I recently purchased. Stay safe up there buddy & don'w work too hard. I am off for a week & 1/2, spring break down here & my youngest is having eye surgery on Thursday. Keep her in your thoughts.
    Chris
  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Thanks for the thoughts. I will post a update after the surgery. Took my oldest to a training burn this morning. Took a few pics (150+) of the fire 1 students. I need to reduce the size and then I will post a few of them on here. I wonder if the wave of the future for patches will be these rubberized ones. I agree, if it can survive a house fire the drier is nothing to worry about. Alright buddy, got to do some work on these photos, wish me luck. Stay safe up there. On a side note, going to be in the 50's here next week, a big cold snap.
    Chris
  • Kasey

    hey,
the family had started cpr before we got there, but after they found the dnr papers we stopped. after we stopped the wife got really upset so I guess she was still hoping he might come back.
Yesterday we had about 5 fires from a truck going down the road making sparks and setting the ditch on fire. I was at work so I just heard about it later.
I wish I had a pool! I used to but it broke. I never really thought canada would get hot enough for a pool haha.
  • Kasey

I don't have any medical training, but I believe our protocol is that unless dnr papers are found we have to try to bring them back if theres any possibility they can be brought back because the family could sue us for malpractice or something if we don't try.
We never found the person that started the fires yesterday, we just assumed thats what happened cause there was scrapes on the road everywhere there was a fire. For something small like that we don't really worry about it. But if there was something big where we had to call a bunch of other stations, or a bulldozer, they county might bill them. I've only known one case of that happening and it was about a year and a half ago. The guy ended up burning like 800 acres when there was a burning ban and I believe it was the second or third time he'd violated the burning ban.
Wow, I guess I'd just always imagined Canada being cold all the time haha.
Um...ryan actually broke up with me this morning. He's got a lot of stuf going on and he said he didn't want to put me in the middle of it. Normally I would think that that was just an excuse, but he told me over and over that he really cares about me and he was doing it to keep me from getting hurt. And everything has been fine before this morning so it wasn't like something happened to upset him. Peyton said he asked her Friday night if I would like it if he named a star after me. So we agreed to just be friends for now until he can get everything straightened out.
  • Kasey

Yeah, 6 minutes would definitely not be acceptable for us. Like 20 minutes would be minimum probably (but then again I'm not totally sure cause I haven't really had any training),
If we catch an arsonist they get arrested, and depending on what all they set will depend their jail time.
Yeah, I think everythings ok between us. We talked a little bit today and it seemed friendly enough. I'm still kinda sad about it cause I really liked him...but at least it didn't end for bad reasons or whatever. I think he broke up with me before he did the star thing. He never mentioned it to me so I guess it was just an idea that didn't happen.
  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Got a hazmat station patch and 2 patches from my navy days headed your way. The mauler patch is kinda imperfect, but they were manufactured local by someplace in the persian gulf area. I think that ebay would cal that rare. Skyler is scheduled for her eye surgery at 0830 tomm morning. Will posta update when we get home. Thanks again for the wishes. Stay safe up there brother
    Chris
  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Back home now, surgery went well and my little girl is resting very comfortably. Guessing that she will be pretty much out of it all day today. Her eyes are pretty bloodshot, but I thik she will start to return to normal here real soon. It's good to know that we have some good people on our side. Had to make many phone calls today, seems that everyone of my friends in the dept are big fans of her. Maybe she is the reason why I have so many friends in the fire dept...thought they liked me, maybe it's that they like Skye.

Just found out last night that there is another station patch that is out on the street and available. I am in the process of tracking that one down now. It's for the fire station thats on a army national guard base & has a desert camo scheme with a M-1 abrams tank and a UH-60 blackhawk helo.

Thanks again for keeping Skye in your thoughts buddy. Your support is greatly appreciated and reinforces that this truly is a brotherhood. Wishing you and the family a great weekend
    Chris
  • Kasey

Thanks for the encouragement :) Its getting better.
We had an ems call this morning for a woman who had cancer surgery about a year ago and started coughing up blood this morning. I didn't get there until they were putting her in the ambulance so I don't know what kind of cancer she had or anything.
  • Russ Griffith

Sure, but I must warn you, I'm a bit slow with getting them out in the mail. Also you're in luck, I have one left then I'll be out until I can order more, I'll let you know the day it goes out.
    Stay Safe
    Russ
  • Kevin

Thanks for the add. Sure, but I might be a bit slow. We just moved and got to find them. In a box somewhere. Send me your address and I will try and get them out right away. Would like to see one of yours also. Thanks. God bless and keep singing. I did the same for several years. Toured Europe and also with John Talbot some 30 years ago.
  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Thanks for the thoughts & prayers for Skyler. She truly is my little mini-me. She was in surgery for about 1 hour, including the time for the knock out stuff. The medical crew was excellent, even took out a loose tooth for her that we asked about. it was really loose and they were concerned about knocking it out during the anestesia. Doctors visit for post op went well and she really has no limitiations. Her eyes are really bloodshot, but she has 20/20 vision and has not complained about them bothering her.
  • Chris Dilley

One of my friends who volunteers at the Hazmat station (patch inbound) made a surprise visit to the house after getting off work. He stopped and got Skye a bouquet of flowers, a guardian angel figurine and a card that he had the career crews from his station and mine sign.

Acts like that & comments like the ones I have got from you truly reinforce the belief that this is a brotherhood. Makes be proud to be associated with such fine individuals. The flip side of this is that I have been on the phone &/or on the cpu pretty much non stop letting everyone know how she is doing. It's good to know that people do still care.
My oldest wishes sometimes that she did not have so many caring individuals in her life, as she hopes to start dating sometime in this lifetime...
  • Chris Dilley

Going out to procure the army themed patch tomm, hope to have it in the mail on Monday
  • Russ Griffith

  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Right you are brother. We had a award ceremony for some of our volunteer f/f last night at our local county fair. On the way home there was a medical call in my neighborhood. I rode into the hosp with our rescue, told my wife that I woul dbe right back home. Ended up catching another call and got home about 3 hours later. Home for about 15 minutes (easter bunny was hard at work) when another medical (cardiac) call came in on my street. I walked down and helped with the patient loading, but the fellas told me that I had to go back home... guess that they were afraid of a upset wife. Was a long day all in all, but I do feel that we helped out some firefighters with the award and some citizens as well.

I was active duty USN for 10 years, never felt that the bortherhood was as strong there. I do believe that the fire dept has this figured out. Another example of this is even more f/f are asking about Skyler's condition. Think I should have had dispatch send it out across the alpha pagers. It's good to know that people care.

Got your army themed patch ready to go out in the mail. Stay safe buddy & Happy Easter
    Chris
  • Wendy Lee-Ann

I havent had the chance to get a patch from the department yet but i will be sure to send u one soon as i receive one.. Sorry for the wait..
  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Yeah I would rather have a busy day than a slow day. I do not wish ill on anyone, but I do like to feel like I am making a contribution. It's hard to feel that way when you just sit in the station and play playstation. Was able to get some good training in today for a few volunteers and a career crew from my home station. Ended up staying up at the station almost 8 hours today, but we were doing stuff, so it pretty much flew by. Ended up having a late night on Easter Sunday, ended up having to drive our rescue (ambulance) to our trauma center. Been about 1.5 years since I last drove the bus, usually I am the medic's helping hands in the back. Nothing like running code on the interstate.
The feeling of relief over Skye's surgery is tremendous, and her operation was very minimual compared to some children's medical conditions. I could not even begin to imagine the turmoil that some parents go through. It's just not right that bad thigns happen to little kids. I can easily deal with some dumbass adult who knowingly does something stupid to hurt themselves, but the calls that I respond to that involve children really hit me pretty hard. I hope that I never have to run another call for a child.
Due to the training today I was not able to get to the post office, but I will try to tomm. "Fireman Chris" has an appointment with a elementary school class in jacksonville. One of my friends from work has a wife who teaches 1st & 2nd graders and I/he made an apprearance during fire prevention week. One of the kids in the class has a father who is a paid f/f in Jacksonville that did not even bother to come into his own kids class for fire prevention week. How sad is that?
What did you do in the army? I was a aircraft electrician. It's hard to beat the rush of working on the flight deck. Got some pics from those good old days on here if you have the free time to look at all of them. Gonna go and give the girls some kisses now, it's almost 1am here and the whole house is fast asleep. Take care, hi to the family & thanks again for the support.
    Chris
  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Managed to get the St25 patch out to the post office today, hopefully you will get it within the next week or so. School visit went well, even took Skye with me. She is so shy around people, but will have to get used to school. She will start kindergarten next year due to the sept birthday. School here starts the end of aug and you have to be 5 on or before the start of the school year.
I wish that we could get a team that does the school PR stuff, typically it's me and one of my volunteers. I feel that it's better to have a few people that want to be there doing a presentation instead of forcing a on duty career crew into something that they do not want to do. I enjoy it, and I believe that it's one of the best ways for me to truly make a difference in the community. It's not as glamorous as kicking in the front door with the nozzle in your hand, but it's still just as important. Going to the station to ride tonight. Last night of vacation and then it's back to the grindstone wed & thurs night. We have a airshow here this weekend, hoping to get some cool pics. I can imagine that the old folks homes are quite challenging. Do you do presentations for the workers or residents?
On the big gun subject, while I was in Fallon, Nevada I had the chance to shoot 105mm howitzers two times. Still have a casing that is my official loose change bank. Not many navy guys get a chance to shoot a 105, needless to say it was pretty cool. I need to scan one of those pics into FFN, it was years before the digital cameras were affordable. Gotta run & try to get dinner started. The career crew is short today, so I am going to be the 3rd f/f on the engine. Take care & stay safe up there

  • Chris Dilley

    Daniel,
Actually I have some pics posted of my shooting a GAU-16 .50 cal machine gun here on FFN. It feeds right to left, with the shell casing and the links falling out the bottom. Quite an experience. When I was in ROTC I had the chance to shoot a M-60.
Went & stayed overnight at the firehouse. Ended up catching a medical call and right about the time I started packing up to come home we caught a st fire in a joined apartment complex. Camera was in my truck, so no pics of the fire. We were third due, got to poke some holes & check for extension. The on-duty Battalion Chief even made it a point to come over & thank me for staying all night. Took some pics that I might have to post when I get a chance in the next few days.
Hope the patches make it to you safe & sound buddy. Take care up there & stay safe. I'll keep you posted on my little "winggirl". probably going to take her to a airshow this saturday.

Hi Daniel - just a note to tell you I open the mail today and have the patches you send. I do have a question: Is Quebec a provincial service or is the patch Quebec city. Thanks again take care.
    Be safe Kevin
  • Kasey

Wow...we never get anything exciting like that haha. I'm definitely not complaining though. I would have been a nervous wreck.
They said that woman is at a major hospital now. I didn't actually see the blood, by the time I got there she was trying to hold back the coughs and they put her in the ambulance pretty quick. Sounds gross though.
I got my CPR recertified last night. Its been expired for almost a year. I also started firefighter 2 Monday night. I've got that every monday and thursday for about a month.
Did you have a good Easter?
  • scfireman1403

Sure thing, I am currently out of the OCES patch but do have one of Salem Fire Department and one of Pickett-Post Camp Oak Fire Department patches. Interested in both?

    Daniel,
Glad you got the patch. Hope the collection is growing drastically due to ffn. Skye is doing great, the redness in her eyes is alomst completely gone. They look like any other irritated eye now. Planning on taking her to the airshow this weekend. If you get a chance please post a good email address and I will try to send you some pics. Hope all is well with our friends up north. Take care & stay safe

Hello daniel robert garvin. I am on the way to richmond right now for a concert. Cameron is driving. its scary. Weve been gone for 2 hours and shes already been pulled over for going 25 mph over the speed limit. thats considered reckless driving but the officer was nice cause her birthday is tomorrow so shes still technically a minor and he didnt want to have to go to court with her so all she got was a warning. We only have to get recertified for cpr every 2 years. I dont think i got any chocolate for easter haha. Dad figured getting both the bronco and the mustang painted and new radios was enough a present.
  • Kasey

It was like 6 different bands there. i didn't know all of them, but there was Framing Hanley, Trapt, Searching for Timothy, Anberlin, and some others that I don't remember. It went alright I guess. I didn't know most of the songs, I really only went cause it was her bday, but nothing bad happened there.
  • CALLIE

I AM SO GLAD YOU GOT THEM!!!! HOPE ALL IS WELL... STAY SAFE....
