About Me:
My first call was a backbreaking brushfire in sweltering heat. I'm talking about indian tanks and steep inclines here. I was one of the last three firefighters out after we extinguished the fire completely and the Chief took me aside and asked me if the experience made me want to quit. My response? "Hell no!" After almost 6 years in the fire service, I feel that firefighting is in my blood, it's something I could never deny nor get away from. I love it. I was promoted to Lieutenant two years ago and this year became 1st Captain. I've also served as Financial Secretary for three years and am on the Board of Directors. The best part about this story goes back to that brushfire, my first call. It was there I met and fell in love with my now husband! :)

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Actually it happened more as a fluke than anything. I was always interested in firefighting but never even considered it for myself until a volunteer suggested I give it a try. It turned out I had a lot more heart than the person who got me into the fire company!!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Knowing that some gave all, just doing what they do.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
I see a lot of leniency... things not being done as safely as it can be, companies growing complacent, always expecting a call to be nothing out of the ordinary. This is a dangerous job, firefighters (paid and volunteer alike) need to wake up and realize that you can't let your guard down, you can't freelance on fire scenes and that fire departments are not social clubs. It's a job and needs to be treated as one.

Hi, you're welcome for the photo comments. Well we just had a live fire training in an old house in one of our neighboring towns. We had some really good fires and a few of our newer firefighters got some training and were able to watch the fire behavior. Then we burned it flat and called it a day... Our next training night we're going to set up a maze in the bays and do search and rescue's plus we're going to put in a little snag. When their in doing search and rescue we're going to take them away from the nozzle like if they lost it. And then we'll have a couple different handlines in there and they have to try to follow the right hose line out by using the couplings. Not sure if thaat would be something to do for a training and set it up however you want. We've had good feed back on this from the firefighters when we did it before. Hope this helps you!! Have a great day and thank you for the add!!

Check out the some of the Groups, I have started up "Close Calls" an area to tell your story of what you did and should not of so others learn. "Roll Calls" this is another group that allows you to tell us about your station and district. "Trainers Corner" is another area that you can read about issues other trainers have or deal with. As well if your not a trainer you can ask questions or state concerns you have. If you have a hard time locating them just go to my site and look at the bottom left hand corner.

Enjoy, be safe and remember we all come home.

Cool, will check it out and give some input. Thanks for letting me know, I enjoy others ideals. As sometimes it does get pretty dry and as well you hear. "We have already done this".

  • theo davis

yes we are doing ok.the only thing that bad is some people that arent firefighter say how can you save a dog but not the mother and baby, but where she was upstair and when we get to the stair it flase over.so we have to live with this.cause we couldnt get to her and the baby, some of us say we would give are life if we could have save the baby.
  • Steve

You were at the house that exploded ? Was anyone hurt? I take it gasoline was used based on the size of the explosion? WHY ??
  • Alana

It's a slow day when folks fight over hood color as though it were the last pair of clearance Prada heels. Wait, that was a girly thing to say wasn't it. Dammit. Stupid estrogen... ;)

Love the mix of music on your playlist!

I used to host a hard rock/heavy metal radio program.

I'd play anything from Bon Jovi, Poison, Cinderella, up to Iron Maiden (Who I'm seeing in concert in a couple of weeks!), Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest.

You name it and I reckon I played it! Have about a 40gig collection of metal MP3's....
