Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Through elementary, middle, and high school I had a close friend who was a victim of on-going child abuse. I joined Law Enforcement Explorers when I was 14 so I could become more comfortable around police officers and get up the courage to have something done about her situation. After a few years, an arson investigator encouraged me to take a look at the fire service, which in turn later got me into EMS...
Why I Love Fire/EMS
The sense of family, the rush of the pager going off and working a structure fire, being able to do something and not being helpless in a situation
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Senseless animosity within the service based on gender, race, religion, career vs. volunteer, etc.

Amy, Interesting life lesson. It does happen and we just need to learn to roll with it. The one thing I learned early one was that to survive in the business we are in, we must always be part of the solution and NEVER add to the situation. That means NEVER! When chaos seems to be ruling the scene we need to be the calm, when death is in the air we need to hold emotions in check, etc.

    Be safe,
    gio
