Tom is the Chief at Bismarck ND airport fire. Saw him a few weeks ago when he came down to give us training here in Washinton State. We work for the same company providing ARFF at airports.
  • Eddie

What company are you working for? Last I new Jesse Gomes is working for Richmond, VA I believe he is a ff/medic...Also Kerns died from cancer a couple years ago. I heard about it when I was in Iraq
  • Deanna

Hey thanks for the add... Have a great and safe weekend
  • Band of Brothers pipes and drums

Getting drums aint sooo tuff. I hav gotten 2 donated to me, 1 from my old high school band director and one from a chief who had started a band and couldnt make a go of it. Unions are great at handing out cash for golf outings, hit them up. So far I have gotten a check for 500 bux to get me started and then came back and asked for them to buy my 2nd kilt (black Globe bunker kilt with 3m stripes). Ive also picked up alot of overtime, sold raffle tickets for the band, and attended alot of functions so the band would make the money to buy the needed accouterments. Not a cheap hobby, lots of time and patience is needed from you and the old lady.

Vollys can pancake breakfast there ways into a band but it will take several. Piggy back it with a fishfry/speghetti dinner too. Petition your state's chiefs association and see if the fire marshall is willing to throw a donation. Old band equipment can be had on ebay. First few years you dont have to be sooo pretty, sound good first. When you sound better than you look folks will ask how they can help. But really, ebay, is where I got a fly plaid from scottland at half the price.

After you have done chanter work for 6 months and can play "AG" all the way thru, with ur first earned money buy a set of pipes ($1000 minimum). Get good at playing the new pipes and then work on making your kilt money. Put ur business card in at some local funeral homes and offer to play amazing grace for anyones funeral, in ur Clasas A's, for $100 a performance, per former. That might get you some kilt money. After you have learned "AG" you can start learning the other tunes (Balmoral, Scotland the brave, Minstrel boy, etc) But AG is the core tune.Understaand that it is almost always a funeral song, the quicker u can increase ur catalog the more versatile the event u can play for. Parades will pay you to play them or you can get a sponsor and hold a banner with their name on it for some green as well. Get a kilt for parades (300-500). Hose and flashes with spats and shoes (100-200) will put a nice touch with the kilt. Google "kilt" for web images and select a style. Sporran is a very cool piece as well but pricey (250). Its the big horse hair furry thing that hangs on the front where ur boys are.

    Good luck...

Eddie, how the hell are ya! It is so good to hear from you. Everything is going great. I'm stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter. I'm a firefighter now in the Air Force and I love it. I go back to the beach every couple of weeks to visit my and Christi's parents, so keep in touch so we can get together. We got a lot of catching up to do. Take care of yourself brother and I hope to hear from you soon.

P.S. Sorry it freaking took so long for me to respond to you, I finished up a refresher class for my medic, so I've been pretty busy.
