Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I honestly cannot say what drew me into the profession. I can remember as young as 12 saying I wanted to be a firefighter.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
it kicks assI love the constant challenge, how every call is different. When the tones go off, you never know what it is going to be. I like a job that keeps me physically active and one where I am constantly challenged. Each call tests me physically, emotionally or intellectually.

I did go on my second ride and it wasnt as positive as the first. I was stuck with someone that seemed to be having a real bad day. I wasnt treated very well to put it nicely. But thats something I'll be up against anyway being a female. There was a lot of resentment twards me.

Welcome!! Hope all is well, stay safe out there
  • Bobby Shelton

Thanks for your thoughts!! But when you thinkn about it haz-mat is SAFER than fires, Think about that and tell me how when you reply
  • Bobby Shelton

Bonnie, I was thinking about what you said about training mandates. But think about it, and maybe I am wrong but in every stat I know of Haz-Mat Awareness or Ops is part of new firefighter training. I'm not saying everyone should be a "glow worm" :0 But I think all of us need to really look at haz-mat as more than just a spill of methyl ethyl killem all. Continued training even at the awareness level is the key
