Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I had been signed up for a new fire company in the town I lived in (Venice Center, NY) as a charter member. I was 18 at the time and thought it would be fun to do. I was sent by the department to represent them at the county level (EMS Council) and went on to be the First County EMS Coordinator. That was a blast!
I guess I just enjoy serving the community, as a fire chief, EMT Critical Care Tech., Fire Investigator, and many other hats over the years. I think my only regret is, I spent way more time serving the community than time with my kids, So some advice to you younger folks, Your Family comes FIRST!!!!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
SELF SATISFACTION, THAT I HELPED MY NEIGHBOR FOR NOTHING IN RETURN
Top Issues Facing Responders:
The training requirments on the volunteers is taking most of thier time away from families, Just to do the most dangerous job in the world for free. The small town like the one I live in has 900 residents. No one wants to volunteer thier time anymore.
