Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I work in Emergency Management for the National Guard Full-Time and I am a firefighter with Perry Fire Department. I also recently joined the Camp Dodge Fire Department here at work (military base fire department). I'm working on a degree in EDM and want to work as a Emergency Management Coordinator.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Helping those in need, knowing that what you do TRUELY makes a difference!
Top Issues Facing Responders:
People who want to claim the title "firefighter" but just want to drive the big red truck and flash the lights. You have to BE a firefighter, you can't just play the part.

THEY HAVE THE TOWING CONTRACT FOR OUR DEPARTMENT.
    SMALL WORLD
  • Joel Swanson

Yeah, I'm glad the fight to get them is over. We started carrying, again in November 2006. Even though we were training since back in the 1990's to be prepared when they gave the go ahead. I'm the dept. Historian and they did away with them in the late 1950's early 60's, not a wise choice but I'm going to let the past be the past. Our world has changed so much, since 9/11.

Hey Clint nice to hear from you I am the director for the EMA in our county. I love it it is my full time job that I started 1-9-06 and I look forward to coming to work every day. I am still learning but I love it. Are you involved with your county EMA? I see that is what you do in the guard I didn't know if you did it outside of there.
  • Brandon Taylor

You will have to go to my page and go to my friends list and get on the page for Huntington Co. EMA. One of my guys made that page and it is all about our EMA department so you will have to check it out.
  • Brandon Taylor

Hey I hope that you go for the job and I hope that you get it. It is a great career to be in. You have many hurdles to over come but it is all worth it in the end. Let me know how it works out for you. Good luck.
  • Brandon Taylor

I think that the cert program is very good. Here it is called PEM and I am still working on it. With all the work that comes with the job it is hard to get away to go to training. The state says that we have to have our PEM with in 2 years so I have to get mine down this year since I am already over 2 years. It is nice to use to show the commissioners that you are doing the training and that you are qualified for the job. So I think that it will help you to get the cert.
