About Me:
My medic school class is the biggest group of dorks ever! (but i love em anyway!)
"Omg, wow girl you really are short! your height is a contraindication for a combitube!!!"
thanks guys, and fyi no I am NOT a midget... midget solely by height has to be 4'10" and I am 4'11" thank you much! and no I dont need a booster seat to drive the ambo or cruiser either..... booster seat is 4'9" lol :)
I absolutely LOVE emergency services.... there honestly hasnt ever been a time when i've freaked out on a scene, I just get in the zone and everything slows down.
I LOVE firehouse humor, even as a girl i think its absolutely hilarious, I will throw just as much crap right back at you guys as you throw at me and have a good time doing it!
I feel I owe something back to the community. I was a 26 weeker at birth with next to no chance to live and supposedly no chance for anything resembling quality of life. Now I am 21 years old, and have no limitations due to my early entrance into the world and stint on life support.
I eventually hope to be a joint flight medic/ police officer with the Fairfax County Police Department Aviation Division once I get my butt in shape!
Until I get my butt in shape I hope to be a dispatcher :)
Why I Love Fire/EMS
knowing I have made a difference in peoples lives
Top Issues Facing Responders:
having an adequate budget for proper equipment, training, and staffing -also-
having people that are actually both motivated and competent enough to do the work
I came into the world early too and faced the same challenges you did re: life support, etc. But, 34 years later Im still alive and kicking like an Army mule. Glad to have you on the Nation and I wish you all the best in becoming a medic/LEO. Im currently testing to be a corrections officer/EMT and am going to be taking dispatcher training sometime this coming summer. And I dont want to be accused of being sexist or anything, but that smile should be listed as a deadly weapon. Once youre a LEO, if anybody gives you any S*&%, just flash them those pearly whites.
Im sure you will be excellent and whatever you do. Plus you have age on your side. I left the field of education at 32 to become an EMT and now I work with the Illinois Medical Emergency Response Team (IMERT), start FF training in March and am working on my master's in emergency management. Just goes to show you even us old goats (Im 34 now) can still get out there and run scenes with the best of 'em. Good luck and be in touch if there's anything I can do for ya. Remember: head up, helmet on and dont walk in front of the tail rotor ;)
Welcome to ffn. I see you were in Ft. leonard wood or better known as ft. lost in the woods. I spent a little time there myself. Hope you enjoyed it. Stay safe.
It is not that bad out here. There are a few things to do. Plus, we are not that fare from bigger towns. You will like it. I have been out here two years, and no way am I moving back up north. lol

Heres to short girls! I know how you feel. just remember, we can fit in through a lot of holes in buildings and cars that the guys can't, even with airpacks on. I have been through more attic holes, and tiny windows than I can count. welcome and stay safe.
HELLO MARIE WELCOME TO THE FFN . i KNOW YOU WILL ENJOY THE SITE. FEEL FREE TO ADD ME AS A FRIEND IF YOU WANT TO..ONE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY FRIENDS IN THIS WORLD .HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR AND BE SAFE OUT THERE.
It depends on what you like to do, but you can always find something to do around here. There are also a few FD, that you can volunteer with. All but two have EMS in them. We are a 100% volunteer county as fare as fire goes. We have 21 career medics in the county. Our sole volunteer EMS company is not in service at the moment. You will like it down here.
Hey there!
You Found me! heh!! indeed i agree with the Brother/Sisterhood thing as well. I enjoy being on here..and think it's so awsome. You get to learn from all over how different Depts work, etc..!! Well it's nice to meet you!! :) Drop me a line sometime.
Here is the deal with National Registry....Be precise. What I mean is when splinting, remember to check pulses BEFORE and AFTER. Remember on assessment to to very sure to hit each item. Don't forget the eyes ears nose mouth etc. Do you get the idea?
You got it, you will do just fine. Talk out everything you do. If you don't say it, you didn't do it. Verbalize everything I.e. checking the scalp for DCAP BTLS, checking the pupils, are they PEARL, checking the nose, any fluid or blood....Just like that
That was a wonderfull thing you did for the locks of love campaigne. My mother was a cancer pt. and was a receipant of a locks wig. Ty so much for your support.
Just drop by to say hi! I have set up a couple areas on the website. To brag a little as well as help a little and of course learn a little. Hope you join in!
