I had one girl tell me she wanted to go out with me but to do so i had to stop being a firefighter and i told her fuck that shit if you cant deal with me being a firefighter then we cant go out. Being a firefighter is not a problem for you its a problem for him and if he dont want you to do wut you love to do which is save lives then hes not worth getting married too thats bullcrap but thats just my feelings im sorry if wut i said made you mad but thats wut i feel

I married a man that didnt like me being around all the guys at the fire department. i eventually gave up being in fire, and was almost forced to quit the ambulance because of it. I can tell you it was so very difficult. I missed my friends terribly, and I lost myself..I didnt know what to do woth my life anymore. And I felt so alone without my old friends there. I would never do it again, no matter how caught up in emotions you get, or what tactics are used, you have to hold on to what is important to you. Sacrificing your happiness shouldnt be part of the contract. When I read your post, it made me cringe..I lived that nightmare, and I certainly wouldnt wish it on anyone else. If you need to talk about anything just holler. i can tell you how it was for me.

Joann, If this is your fiances responce now, you need to take stock in your whole relationship. My X was an explorer prior to my becoming a firefighter, so she knew what I was getting into when I joined. It was ok until we had children. Then it started. Calls didnt seem a priority over staying home and take care of the kids. It wasnt too bad w/ my first but the second it got real bad. numerous fights. Itook a leave of absense, It took me 6 mo when we moved to rejoin ,then it was only ok for certain calls. I cant count the calls I missed because "your not going to run THAT call are you" Then I quit
    again during my divorce.
I agree with what others are saying. He accepted you doing this and he needs to accept your going to continue. If not you need to consider calling it off, you wont be happy otherwise and he will continue to do these things and control other parts of your life.
Good luck in the decision and write if you need anything
ps feel free to add me

I did try to get him involved, he got into the EMT thing for a while, but it didnt last long. That ended up turning into a way for him controlling when I got to respond too,. there started to be excuses for why he needed to go instead of me, then when he got over it, he was right back to trying to get me out of it, saying I cared more about random strangers than him. We were able to work it out in the end, but it took him facing death before he realised it. Then it was too late. He didnt win the battle. I loved my husband to death. I wouldnt have given up all of that if I hadnt, but the point is that you shouldnt have to. I take my blame too, because ultimately, I was the one who should have said "No way" but I loved him, and wanted him to be happy. In the end, I can see it didnt. He fell in love with me when I was involved with the emergency services, and when I left that, I lost a huge part of me. We both missed it. I would have done us both a huge favor if I would have just drawn the line in the begining. Who knows if we would have been together or not, but I think it would have been the better thing to do.
