Looking for any information anyone can share about the proper way to do truck dedications. My department acquired several new trucks and I wanted to dedicate them properly - and of course was given the task of coordinating it.

    Thanks - Mark Renninger

  • Denton W. Ervin

    Hello Everyone,
My name is Denton W. Ervin I am the fire chief of the Mountain Park volunteer fire Department. I have been on the department since 1996. I love what I do even though it has cost me almost everything. On January 3rd 2003 while finishing up the construction of our new fire station the ladder that I was working from broke in half and I fell and broke my back. I was told that by all rights I should have been paralysed from the first lumbar down. But I just have perminent nerve damage. I lost my job and no one will even look at employing me because of the restrictions and the medication. The only thing that we have here in Oklahoma to help us when we get hurt is workers comp.
All they do is treat you like a criminal and an idiot. I have looked ever since I got hurt for anything that might help but there is nothing out there for perminently disabled VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS. THIS has to change I dont want anyone else anywhere to go through what I have and to put their families through what I have. I have tried to get the official people to listen to try and start the discussion on setting up some kind of something to help those who are perminently affected by an accident. I have gotten nowhere. I have not gotten anyone to pay any attention to me. They keep telling us that so much relys on the VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS. BUT the volunteer firefighters have nothing to rely on when WE need help.
I would love to hear what others think about this. DO you think that there needs to be something out there for those that sufffer a perminent disability while serving as a volunteer firefighter?
From what I have experienced since my injury I pray every day that nobody else has to go through what I have.
    Thank you for reading!
Everyone be carefull and stay safe.
    Denton W. Ervin

Couldn't ask for a better bunch to work with-and a smart crew they are. We just have 3 full time depts in the Upper Peninsula-the rest are all volunteer depts. And there is lots!......Smokeyjoe85

    Worked as a EMT-1

I served in one of the greatest city of the world ( San Francisco) as a volunteer hoping to get on with the LOCAL 793. I dont know if that is a reality due to the process. But I will volunteer again..........

I was blessed enough to be able to make some really good friends that I watch from afar now.

A mild stroke took me out last year but I am on my way back and I refused to be disabled.

I am a stubborn Portuguese / Irish bull headed woman, last year at this time I couldn't move half my body let alone count to 10.

There is nothing like running a call and saving lifes. I miss it so much so I joined the site to keep it real.

I love my life and I am determined to get myself back in order to save lives again but as for now I am saving myself even if it is at a computer.

Today I am grateful to say that I am running 2 miles a day and on my way back to buckle those boots....

LIFE IS GOOD SAVOR EVERY MOMENT

    BE SAFE
    BROTHERS AND SISTERS

Looking forward to chatting with many of you and passing on knowledge.
I've been with the fire dept. in our community since 1980. I have served as FF, T.O., Capt., 2nd A/C and currently Chief .... since 10/2006.
The fire dept. is all volunteer in a community that is rural with light industry/manufacturing and an airport.
I have the highest respect and admiration for the dedicated members that I proudly serve as Chief. Wouldn't trade them for anything.

my personal statement to anyone about volunteers..."What if volunteers Didn't"..
  • Jock

VFF 19 years. One son also a VFF. wouldn't trade it for anything else. As with most of that have been doing this for some time, we have seen a lot of bad, a little good, nature of the job. We (department) just got a letter from a woman thanking us for treating her family after a bad MVA. She has twin daughters and one was thrown from the car and in bad shape, they we only 2 when it happened. She sent this letter along with a pic of the girls from their H.S. graduation, the accident happend 15 years ago.
Short to say, keep up the great work because we never may know the impact you will make on someone's life.

  • Reg Mathis

Greetings! Been a volunteer for 9 months now and at the age of 48, I wonder if I didn't make a wrong career choice all those years ago! I love the work AND the training. Volunteering has helped me get in the best physical shape I've experienced in 25 years, which has helped me control or eliminate some potentially serious health problems.(Diabetes(T2), Hypertension as well as losing about 30 pounds so far! Plus it lets me give something back to a community that has helped me raise 2 fine sons(both in college now) and has provided a wonderful hometown for my family. Not to mention the fact that I find that wearing heavy, rubber boots is sexy as hell!!! Proud to be a member here!!! Reg
