i always wanted a fire related tattoo and i saw everyone with the maltese cross on their arm and i decided to make mine a little more personal since just about everyone i grew up around was a firefighter and it was like one big family down at the fire department i decided to put the saying "once a family, always a family" with it. and if you cant tell, the tattoo is on the top of my foot, it was kind of an awkward picture for me to take by myself

This tattoo is to memorialize a man that meant the world to me, Chief Watts Hubbard of the Pleasant Prairie Fire Dept. When I was in high school Chief Hubbard gave me a chance to be on the fire dept, I was only the janitor but he made me feel like one of the guys. 25 years later I'm following my life's dream of being a firefighter. I start school in two weeks and am a probie firefighter with the Paris Fire Dept. Believe it or not I really feel that the Chief is my guardian angel. The way things have fallen into place for me this last year, it had to be him.

I was a late bloomer with my tats. I didn't get my first one until I was 29, it was in remembrance of my grandma. On 9-11, we all got dealt a heavy blow, too many good people gone in an instant. I was watching everything on TV with a disbelief that this could happen in America. While I watched, they showed footage of the people running away, crying, bleeding, shell shocked and feeling like they were a part of a horrible nightmare. I saw crew after crew arrive, and off duty Fire/Rescue and Police. I had a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach and hoped that what I was dreading wouldn't happen. My friend Ky had been with his station less than a year, but had been a Firefighter/Medic for 16 years. I saw Ky's crew roll up and haul ass out of the trucks, heading for the Towers. Someone behind them must have said something, or there was a loud noise, I don't know. Ky, his Lt., and two more stopped, looked back towards the camera, and then they went to work. When Tower 2 collapsed, even though I knew better, my eyes were straining for another glimpse of him. It wouldn't happen. Since 9-11, I've lost six more 'family' members. When I asked my tat guy to come up with one for me, I told him that I didn't want 343 in it. I told him that this one was meant to pay my respects to FF, Medic, Police Officers and soldiers. The rocker above my tat is Gaelic for "Brotherhood Above All". Fire, Rescue, EMS, Police and soldiers all have our own "Brotherhoods", but we've all got each others backs too.
