Why is a firehouse called a firehouse?
I've been having a discussion/argument with my Assistant Chief about this. I'm wanting to know your reasons (other than "we've always called it that") as to why the fire station is more than that. Why should a fire station be called a FIREHOUSE?

Well I'm going to go out on a limb and say its because it housed the fire trucks and firefighters......Just a guess.

How about the word warehouse where wares are stored or maybe where wares are sold. I have also heard of people using the word barn as in Fire Barn for storage of fire equipment.
