We purchased a new engine and are now in the process of mounting equipment. I was wondering what people use to secure tool boards or tool mounts to the inside of the compartments. I have used self tapping sheet metal screws in the past, but over time they have either stripped out or loosened up and fell out. I have seen products out there called rivnuts and threaded inserts. Would these be a good choice or there another product there that works better? We purchased a Sutphen with a stainless steel body so it will be hard drilling. Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Why not contact the manufacture for suggestions from them?

What was a common size you would use? I was thinking about using 1/4-20 bolts.

NAPA auto parts has a kit also that will be FAR less expensive than the kit from Snapon ( I have both )    here is the NAPA part number on their online site.  http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Rivet-Tool...

They both work very well. I have used the NAPA brand tool and inserts with no trouble for years in a multitude of applications and vehicles.

yes, and when they loosen up. drill them out and put in new ones.     There is still nothing better than bolts and nylon insert nuts though IMHO.
