Any books to buy to help with classes?
I just took my entrance tests to start my schooling for my local FD. My question is is there any books out there I should buy to have on hand at home to look over and study while not in school to help me better?

I would stick with the books that are issued or recommended by the school. That will probably keep you busy enough. After you graduate you can begin broadening your knowledge base. Just remember that the tactics and procedures of your given department trump all else. You don't want to be constantly challenging the status quo based on extra curricular readings.

Captnjak is right. Wait and see what books are issued to you at the beginning of class. Then ask the lead instructor if he or she has any recommendations. They're likely to say, "No. What you see is what you get." You'll want to know the books they give you word for word! Make it your goal to ace every test.

Well passed my tests to get into schooling and just went yesterday for my physical and stress test just have to wait for the results to come in and I should be ready to start schooling

Well I just go the phone call today from the FD.. Everything was good to go and they gave me a hire date of Jan 27th and going to start drills on Feb 10th. Really excited

Other than the Standard Essentials manual I would suggest "Fire Stream Management" by Dave Fornell. This does a very nice job explaining nozzle types, fire attack, water supply, hose construction, and more.

I know I sound like a broken record. But once again I got a call from my Asst Chief this morning and he told me they did get all the paperwork back from the physical and all the doctors and everything is a go.. They will hire me in on Jan 27th and I will be starting my FFl classes on Feb 12th. Now just have to go to the station and get some paperwork filled out
.. Really excited to start this
