I wanted to introduce you to an app we made to help with our accountability. I have 25 years with the FDNY and have experienced the loss of more than one Brother because we didn't know they were missing.

The Mandown App (www.mandownapp.com) that we made acts the same way as a PASS alarm. Non movement will trigger a pre-alert after 30 seconds. Moving will reset the app. If there is NO movement for 60 seconds the app automatically sends out a text message, email and phone call notifying your pre arranged contacts that you have an emergency with a map to your last known location.

Almost all of us carry phones. Cell service has improved to a point that it makes no sense for us not to use it for our own safety.

I would love to hear your opinions. My firehouse uses the app and we have it set to call, text and email our 24 partners. You can set it to notify anyone you want.

You can read more and find the app at www.mandownapp.com. We are all about our safety and we think this will 110% save a life.

Be safe

Wouldn't the durabilaty of the cell phone come into play? On a fire it needs to take alot of abuse.

Tom,

I've purchased Mandown  for my iPhone and anticipate using it in all types of situations where we might face any kind of hazard, such as hazmat, MVC's, search & rescue... The list goes on. I'm not just thinking of fires.

Thanks to you guys for coming up with this brilliant potentially lifesaving application. It's a wonderful idea.

Now if only I can remember to activate and deactivate it without causing my wife to think I'm in some kind of trouble!

Yes. I have my phone in a otter case and have had no problems but it is definitely something that we have talked about. There are hardened cases available and if the app does well it's something we would explore offering.

My phone stays in my turnout coat pocket in its case. I have the Android Razr and it no problems while we were testing.

Thanks Norm,

It has other applications too. I put it on my moms phone. She's alone. If something happens I get all 3 notifications.

Because we have been building and testing this for some time turning it on and off is a habit now. It can run all day but if you put your phone down you will get that pre alert to remind you.

Once we get more feedback maybe we can find ways to improve it.

I also have it on both of my kids phones. When they walk the dog and go to the bus I have them turn it on. Just another worried dad!

Stay safe Brother

Tom
