Have you noticed the complete lack of a descent firefighting game either on the computer or any game console? I wonder all the time how in this long we haven't had one really good strategy game with some descent graphics. You could make it where you have "a call" getting the apparatus to the scene safely, size up, radio commands (multiple choice) and then commense fire ground operations. There has to be someone out there thats seen one I haven't. If you have any ideas, or have seen anything worth the time to play let me know the name, or some ideas. Maybe if someone comes along they will get the brainstorm.

Firefighter FD18 on PS2, kinda rare to find, but you could prolly easily pick one up off eBay. Its a tad farfetched in some situations but I realy enjoy playing it. The graphics are really good, you get to use different tools (axe, extinguishers, and your trusty playpipe). It also has a pretty interesting storyline they work into the game.
Theres a game for PC called "Emergency Fire Response". which i picked up off ebay. The graphics are okay, and game play is not too bad. Its a scenario based game which gets more complex as you progress.I'd have to agree with you though that there aren't many good firefighting games out there. cheers
I went to a Chuk E Cheese and they had a firefighting game called The Brave Fire fighter--made by sega genesis--had two nozzles and you controlled you water flow--it was cool I think
I would agree. I was at the Firehouse Expo in Baltimore, MD. They had a tractor trailer there with a driving simulator on it. Multiseat and scenario. It was interesting to see, obviously expensive (it was for a state training program), but no where near the graphics that we are beginning to get used to for the new cutting edge xbox 360 and playstation stuff. It seems like only 30 years ago we were playing "Pong" and marveling at it!
Fire Engineering had a simulation game posted on their website. It was educational in nature but had you play the part of a chief arriving on scene or an engineer with three or four lines off. It's worth a look.
Driving simulators area great training tool. Yes the graphics can suck, but it does provide in house training for probies, and can assist other srivers with honing down their skill. Just my thought.
That would be cool as long as you are able to drive a ladder truck and have all types of sirens and air horn. And if its possible have where you are the pump and airel operator
I would have to agree with with Engineco913. I happen to be a big fan of all types of video games and I have not seen one that goes into great detail with firefighting. I have to be honest, I don't typically look for games for the computer platforms as the laptop I had got blown up by a rocket in Iraq, and I still haven't gotten around to getting a new one. I would love to see one that plays on all platforms, PC, XBOX 360, PS3, etc. I think with the ability that game programmers have to go into detail with games like the Grand Theft Auto series, the Elder Scrolls series or any of the sports series', that with the proper people advising the details, a really good game could be made in an RPG style. Look at America's Army and how it takes you through the basic training phase, specialty schools, to your unit, to combat. Transfer that over to an academy, training, schools and calls. Again, this would have to have people that know what they are talking about in all aspects of the fire service, I think it could be done and done well.
Could be done I agree with. The gamers only want to market games that have potential to sell in mass quantities. Unfortunately for us, the gamers who purchase games may not have the patience to "learn" firefighting. The only chance the game designer would have to make money would be to market it to firefighters. (even then they would have to "dumb down" the game to allow easier paths to the real action. I hope we do get to see it for it would be an absolute blast and if designed correctly (using real life scenerios) could become a Virtual Reality training mechanism.
Years ago my department tried to put together a virtual reality training program that would allow realistic opportunities to train our firefighters on everything from tactics to command strategy. We weren't smart enough to get it done, and those that were were too busy designing "kill" games. No doubt some of the techniques now being used could be applied. It could be a real boost for modern training programs.
Iv'e got firefighter F.D.18 for my ps2. I got it from ebay pretty cool game.

I've been following this company since they started the "Real Heroes: Firefighter" project; it's set to release pretty soon (Q2 2009), but haven't quite heard a date yet. It's for the Nintendo Wii only (so far), so the graphics will probably leave somewhat to be desired, but hey- it's a start!!
I emailed the developer in the early stages and told him he has a very lucrative opportunity with this game, and he told me that he was using several different fire departments for consultations, and he assured that they would do their very best. Plus, the Wii controller and nunchuck will hopefully make it a bit more realistic i.e. swinging axes and such =]
Hopefully with some amount of success, even if the first version isn't 100% "gamer quality", a potential sequal can be even more beneficial/realistic/fun/etc.!!
Here's a trailer for the game, too:

BTW, Jason Williams (on September 3, 2007 at 12:52am), I also have "Firefighter Command: Raging Inferno" for my PC. It is a VERY cool game, but uses a butt load of memory to run. It covers everything from water supply issues to exposure consideration and scene safety. It utilizes Aerial apparatus to Brush trucks to Air tanker drops!! Pretty damn cool, but I think it was discontinued in like 2007.
