NEW YORK - The Wall Street Journal reports that a FDNY truck involved in a fatal collision with a van ran a red light, violating state law while on an emergency run.
The accident Wednesday on Staten Island killed one person and injured eight others.
The Journal says the fire engine did not come to a complete stop at a red light as required by state law.
The fire department tells the paper that after stopping, fire trucks can proceed with caution if the intersection is clear.
The truck was headed to a car fire with its lights and sirens on when it got into the accident. Police say the van, from a nonprofit organization called Lifestyles for the Disabled, was carrying special needs adults, plus a driver and an aide.
My prayers go out to those involved in this crash. Please remember, if you are driving an emergency apparatus your actions effect all of those around you.
Man this I think is becoming far tooo common.Guys please it was a car fire big deal it's not like the tones droppedfor a house with kids trapped.I feel for the people involved and their families buy this was 100% avoidable.Gotta be on your toes out there guys cause not everybody pays attention to their surroundings while behind the wheel so we have to do double time on paying attention.Be safe for you, them and your families!
