EastOregonian - On Nov. 24th, a fire broke out at 22 S.E. 9th Dr., in Pendleton. The house belonged to Bill Fenton, who was renting it to Travis Walker and Tyler Hall. The fire started when the two renters lit a fire in their woodstove and left the house unattended. While some structure remained, the fire gutted the attack and left the house in ruin.

OK So probie question here....

Why are there no streams on the left exterior portion of the house?

1) This appears to be ignition of the gases escaping from the gable cut rather than a flashover (but appearances can be deceiving from a video shot from a single angle), 2) A gable cut such as this provides access for water application but a small opening such as this is not used for tactical ventilation (despite that, it did change the vent profile as hot smoke exited and ignited). 3) Roof operations do not appear to be a safe option at this point.

He might not have been in the right place, but, I like this guy! He knew the best way to protect himself was to attack the fire! He got right back up and went after it. The tactics need work but this guy will be a good fireman. Good job in Pendleton! Head first!

I would hope that the firefighter would have been taught better than stand right in front of the window when you take it out. If not he d__ sure does now. Glad he made OK

Venting the attic? If you have a window yes, but they were looking to gain access. Venting the roof to relieve the attic pressure under that metal roof would have changed the outcome of the near miss gable end "access" cutting.
