What's your favorite firehouse recipe?  If you have one, would you like to share it with other firefighters?  I'll post my favorite one up first and others can add theirs too.  I also have a recipe sharing website www.companychow.com  It is free to visit, post on, use, rate....trust me...it's all around free!  No strings attached, just a fun place for firefighters to share recipes.  We already have over 100 recipes on the site from California to New York.  When I'm stuck with what to make at the station I try one out from the site.  I haven't been disappointed yet!  If you post a recipe here, I'll put it up on the site.  You can also post it yourself on the site.  Ok, here's my favorite recipe...try it out...guys love it down at the firehouse.

Ok...I'm pretty sure bacon on anything is fantastic!  I was just trying to find a Gumbo recipe yesterday.  It's been raining out here in LA and I thought it would be something nice to make on a rainy day!

i get 2lbs of crab,1 lbs shrimp(good size ones), and 1 lbs smoked sausage, oakra, cellery, baby red potatoes, 1 corn on the cob( white corn), celantro, scallions, 1 box or zaterans gumbo rice mix, and some seasonings= basil, sage, cumin, garlic (fresh is always better) hen whatever eles trips your trigger, its gumbo!

get a big ol pot and add water (about half full, or half empty if yer pessimistic)

get it hot and add rice mix and taters, seasonings, sausage, scallions, celery, oakra, about 30 min on medium low

when taters are half way done add the corn ( cut it off the cob) and shrimp( peel em first)

when the shrimp look done about 15 more min, now this is where ya get the flavor kick, add the crab by either snapping it into small piceses, or shell it in a bowl first catching all the juices as you open them, thats the flavor booster if you dont want to have to crack to eat whill you dine.

add crab and juice and cover, put on low and let it sit for another 15 min

serve with fresh bread n butter, cold beer

and there ya go, after the first time youll learn to tweek it to your own style and every time ya make it it gets better! enjoy

Matt, go to forums and type in Firehouse recipe, lots there.

Thanks karr...I'm gonna give it a try
