October is coming soon and I would like to network with you guys to see what your departments do as far as getting the public's attention in a positive way about fire prevention.  For instance my fire department back home would go out and deliver pizzas with Pizza Hut.  Upon delivering the pizza we would ask to check the person's smoke detectors and if they worked properly we would give them the pizza for free.  What are some of your ideas?

We do everything at Open House during Fire Safety Week. Vehicle extrication demo, christmas tree demo, fire extinguisher training, medevac helicopter, turkey fryer demo, stuff for the kids like stop-drop-roll, etc. We also give out smoke detectors and batteries for those who may not otherwise get them.
In our village, firefighters visit the school and the kindergarten once a year. Here we show the children the correct behavior in fires and give them advice on how to prevent fires.
The households will also receive a free leaflet with fireprevention tips.
After a structure fires have consumed a family's home, it is not uncommon to have the house used, with the owner's permission, as an "Open House". this allows the community to see the affects of fire up close and to understand how to prevent it from happening to them...

or...

you can load an engine up with cheerleaders, giving fire prevention cheers? it's cool to think outside of the box...
