CONFLUENCE, Pa. - A western Pennsylvania firefighter is facing charges for allegedly setting fire to a woman's home then arriving with his fire crew to battle the blaze.

State police say 34-year-old Charles Whipkey set the fire Tuesday morning in his hometown of Confluence then responded to the fire call.

A woman and her caretaker brother made it out of the home safely. No injuries were reported.

Confluence Fire Chief Tom Close Jr. says Whipkey had been a member of the fire company for a couple of years.

Whipkey is being held on $20,000 bail. It was not clear if he had an attorney.

I wonder who did his background check!
my dad told me a story similar to this when he was on the department, a female on his crew would set brush fires so they would have to respond to them. it doesn't make any sense to put your crew or any civilians lives in danger
WHY???? Definitely no place for that in the fire service....Puts a Blackeye on the service for sure.
